Exercise 2.9.2
1. Interview at least two (2) individuals who can be considered as primary sources on the
positive contribution of President Cory Aquino to the Philippines or the positive things
that happened during her presidency. Provide given testimonials and the names of the
account witnesses.
a. Account: Luisito Cruz
According to him after Aquino's people's power revolution would mark an
end to government corruption and cronyism, and begin an era of economic
prosperity that Filipino has been promised. On her first action of reforming the
constitution of the government. And that is the present constitution that has been
using up until today. She established a revolutionary government from the coup
d’état and abolished the 1973 Constitution. This lead to restoring a new
democratic institutions and made a foundation for a vigorous and vibrant
democracy that has an independent judiciary, a free press, and most of all,
guaranteed individual rights.
The new constitution, made a reforms such as family codes bans
abortion, abolishes the death penalty, demands equality of the sexes and
restores the freedom that people and also the administration code and local
government code that seeks on the democracy that we still used today.

b. Account: Susan Roces

During the post – people power revolution, my aunt was living at metro
manila where she was working as a dressmaker. She said that during her
presidency, she was shocked because she did not expect that a woman could
become a leader and a president. One of the positive things that she contributed
is that she was an inspiration, even a model to many people because she gave
the people something to believe in like the power of democracy in which most of
the people in the Philippines wished for; which led to People’s Power Revolution
that led the country to transition from dictatorship to democracy. She was able to
overthrow Ferdinand Marcos’ oppressive reign over the nation and became the
first woman president in the Philippines.
She said that one of the positive things that she remembers about Cory
Aquino’s Presidency was that she abolished the constitution that was in effect
during the Martial Law era. She also said that Cory, was able to pay some of the
debts that the Philippines have. Nevertheless, my aunt said that the most
significant thing that she did was to bring back the democracy to the nation.
2. Interview at least two (2) individuals who can be considered as primary sources on the
negative action of President Cory Aquino took or the negative things that took place
during her presidency. Provide given testimonials and the names of the account
witnesses.
a. Account: Luisito Cruz
When he was working at the Manila, Aquino's presidency failed to provide
even the most basic services, such as electricity and other power facilities. The
capital experienced blackouts in about a half a day, every day that brings
numerous businesses were brought to a halt and many more inconveniences.
The administration knew that country's power plants were failing, but it didn’t act
to solve the problem.
In his economic view, The Cory administration inherit bankrupt and debt-
ridden nation under misrule and mismanagement in the Marcos regime. During
her presidency, she focused her attention to rejuvenate the sagging economy.
But unfortunately, her decision was flawed and the Aquino administration only
manage to paid off the country's outstanding debts to regain good international
credit ratings and attracts the attention to the future markets. But the country
missed an opportunity to prosper in its industry, deepening its export and
enhancing the long-term economic future. Due to less foreign investment that
swept over the Southeast Asia. The Philippines only received a fraction on its
funds and the economy is not growing. The Philippines languished while other
countries bloom which leads to new plants and manufacturing facilities and
expanded more in exports and broaden the manufactured goods and also the
debt become higher than previous administration.

b. Account: Susan Roces

According to my aunt during her presidency, she did good things that
benefited the country but some of the people were disappointed in her because
she did not contribute that much to the nation besides freeing the people from
dictatorship. She said that a lot of people called her naïve and frail. Most of the
people around her said that they were pessimistic because she was not able to
fulfill the expectation of the people who believed in her. One of the negative
things that happened in her presidency was that she was not able to punish
those former followers of Marcos’ during his regime. Eventually some of them
was even appointed by Corazon Aquino in place in the Government like Marcos’
cousin and Enrile who even came a senator during her presidency.
One of the things that my aunt was disappointed in was that she was not
able to bring justice to Ferdinand Marcos when they were exiled from the country
and she was also incapable of bringing back a huge amount of money that the
Marcos’ family corrupted from the country which also most people were mad
about. She said that although Cory brought democracy back to the nation, she
was not able to solve most of the problems surrounding the Philippines and even
though most people like her, they also noticed that not much has changed
because she did not have the capability and direction to govern the nation.
3. Between the two sides interviewed, which do you think is more reliable? Why?

Between the accounts, there are some similarities on the answers that was given
to us. Both give credible information that they’ve interpret on what kind of administration
that Philippines had during Cory Aquino’s presidency within two different viewpoints of
the accounts. It was shown that even after the revolutionary government that was
establish during the coup d’état. It said that the new government gave a new democracy
that made the Philippines more democratic and free which leads to prosperity that the
Filipinos really wants.
The reliability between the accounts is same because both sources only gave
their opinion and experience with their own interpretation, we say that both is not really
reliable due to its there’s no actual evidences and interviewed using spoken words which
is really subjective. It might have been biased whether the Cory’s administration is good
or bad and still relevant to on the happenings today.
