Santa Cruz Guitar company is a all-scale manufacturing company, they are producing
fewer than 800 instruments a year. They don’t have a normal quality department nor
has consciously tried the principles of TQM and Deming’s 14 points. This company is
doing the 14 points even though it is not aware.

1. Create Vision and demonstrate commitment – They have long term goal on
keeping the company’s name known.
2. Learn the new philosophy – They are learning new techniques and gives
emphasis on last skills.
3. Understand inspection – They are strict in quality before proceeding to the next
station
4. Stop making decisions Purely on the Basis of cost – They are always welcome
on new things in their business. And not making cost as a basis.
5. Improve constantly and forever – they are attending a practice that allows each
of them build more instruments for personal use. These opportunity allows them
to explore new techniques in guitar building and become encourage to try new
opportunities.
6. Institute Training – The company are giving external courses for the workers for
improvement
7. Institute Leadership – The leader of the company make sure that each step will
be done before then item will be moved to the next station
8. Drive out Fear – They are not bringing down each other but they made sure that
every mistake will be a learning process
9. Optimize the efforts of the team – They maximize the potential of each worker
and give more importance to quality.
10. Eliminate Exhortations – They give emphasis on the management process of the
guitars.
11. Eliminate numerical Quotas – they create spaces for improvement of the guitars
12. Remove Barriers to Pride in Workmanship –They don’t blame each other when
they made a mistake
13. Encourage Education and Self-Improvement – they are taking external courses
14. Take Action – They are already apply what they learned through experience and
constant adaption through education.
