EXERCISE 5. Answer the questions below.
1. Would you like to adopt a Mediterranean diet? Why? I would like to adopt a
Mediterranean diet because it has a lot of benefits for health, including heart
health, prevention of chronic diseases. Also Mediterranean diet enriches
with nutritious food such as fish or seafood, healthy fats thanks to nuts and olive
oil. Besides, it allows eating the food you love without banning.
2. Do students eat healthy food in your country? In our country students try to eat
a balanced diet but during their studies it’s not always possible because they often
have a quick snack instead of meals.
3. What in your opinion is a healthy lifestyle? In my opinion, healthy lifestyle
supposes eating a balanced healthy diet, avoiding bad habits such as smoking or
alcohol addiction, thinking positively, feeling relaxed, doing exercises regularly

What is the purpose of writing restaurant reviews? Who writes them? To whom?
The purpose of reviews is to share your impression and estimate the good and bad
points of the restaurant. It is usually written for someone in authority by visitors
who have eaten recently and would recommend to others.
Where can you find and read restaurant reviews? You can find restaurant
reviews in the internet, magazines and newspapers.

Subject: Golden Phoenix restaurant
The aim of this report is to assess the good and bad points of the «Golden
Phoenix».
The «Golden Phoenix» is a restaurant in the city centre. It is the best place
for families and friends to spend a nice evening eating delicious food. Moreover, I
have many pleasant memories related to this place. My parents celebrated birthday
parties there. Also one of my cousins’ marriage ceremony was celebrated at this
restaurant.
As you enter the restaurant you are welcomed by a pleasant atmosphere. The
interior decoration of the restaurant makes it stand out from the crowd: high
ceiling, huge chandeliers, soft sofas. The restaurant is on two levels. On the first
floor you can get a window seat and enjoy the view.
Moreover, the prices are very reasonable and that's the main reason I love
this restaurant. Many other restaurants in my city offer good dishes and services,
but most of them are expensive.
What’s more, the waiters are very friendly and advised good dishes.
The restaurant serves mainly lunch and dinner meals. It offers a wide variety
of hot appetizers, salads and special soups such as broth with wheat croutons or
carrot soup with prawns. In addition to this, the menu is suitable for vegetarians.
It also has a selection of desserts. I chose the puff pastry bun with apple. It
was very tasty! The main course that I had consisted of boiled potatoes with dill
and chicken fillet with honey sauce. Unfortunately, I didn't like the sauce because
it was too viscous.
Despite all the good points, I waited a long time for the food. Besides, too
loud music distracted me. It would be better to turn on more relaxing music.
To sum it up, although the service was slow and the atmosphere was noisy, I
had a pleasant dinner. The polite waiters and excellent food at reasonable prices
make it a worth visiting place for food lovers. For this reason, I would recommend
going to this restaurant.
Василий Тяпинский (1530-1600гг.)-писатель, книгопечатник
и переводчик ВКЛ. Родился в семье шляхтича
господарского полоцкого повета (Тяпино, Чашникский
район).Участвовал в Инфлянтской войне c Московским
царством, служил у подканцлера Остафия Воловича,
который поддерживал реформационное движение и
книгоиздательскую деятельность в ВКЛ. Тяпинский был
близок к Сымону Будному. Вместе с ним он принимал
участие в протестантских съездах. Воевал, путешествовал,
сблизился с радикально настроенными протестантами.
Тяпинский отстаивал позицию, что владеть имениями и
землей, а также участвовать в справедливых войнах против
нашествий и угрозы тирании — это не грех и не
противоречит Библии. Главным делом жизни Василя
Тяпинского стало просвещение народа.
Ради этого он взялся за перевод на белорусский язык
Евангелия и на собственные деньги основал в своем имении
Тяпино типографию. Эта трудная и кропотливая работа
требовала больших средств, которых просветитель не имел.
По его признанию, он смог перевести и напечатать только
тексты Евангелий от Матфея и Марка и частично от Луки.
Просветитель намеревался издать и Катехизис, однако этот
план остался нереализованным. Около 1570 года Тяпинский
издал "Евангелие" напечатанное в два столбца - на
церковнославянском и белорусском языках с
многочисленными толкованиями и ссылками на источники.
Оно напоминает виленские издания Скорины.
Григорий Иванович Шелихов (1747-1795гг.)— русский исследователь,
мореплаватель, промышленник и купец.
Шелихов организовывал коммерческое торговое судоходство между
Курильской и Алеутской островной грядой с 1775 года. В 1783—1786 годах
возглавлял экспедицию в Русскую Америку, в ходе которой основал первые
русские поселения в Северной Америке. В середине августа 1783 года
Шелихов с тремя кораблями и командой из 192 человек отправился в сторону
Аляски. Спустя месяц, по прибытию в Новый Свет, потеряв один из
кораблей, экспедиция достигла острова Уналашка. Русские пушные
промышленники, которые уже посещали эти места, отговаривали Шелихова
от основания здесь поселений, так как незадолго до этого местные жители
убили целую группу русских охотников. Однако Шелихов не послушался их
и основал первое поселение на острове Кадьяк.
Шелихов намеревался не давать местным эскимосам ни малейшего повода
для враждебных действий, желая сделать их российскими подданными не
посредством страха, а добром и к их собственной выгоде. Он принял первых,
кто осмелился наведаться в русское поселение, очень дружелюбно, накормив
и одарив подарками. Однако, к несчастью для русских, во время визита
произошло солнечное затмение. Жители острова очень испугались и
восприняли это как недобрый божественный знак.
Следующей ночью они напали на русский лагерь, который несмотря на
превосходящее оружие лишь с трудом смог отразить натиск. На следующее
утро с соседнего острова стали подходить лодки, наполненные воинами,
шедшие на подмогу кадьякским эскимосам. Было понятно, что русские не
смогут долго противостоять этой превосходящей силе. Поэтому Шелихов
отдал приказ обстрелять поселение туземцев из пушек, после чего сотни из
них сразу сдались из страха перед неизвестным оружием. Наиболее
воинственных Шелихов приказал казнить. Остальные должны были оставить
своих детей в качестве заложников и были отпущены на свободу. Эти дети
были воспитаны вместе с русскими детьми, ходили в школу и изучали
русский язык. Несмотря на трудности, русским в итоге удалось установить
мирные отношения с индейцами.
Шелихов контролировал строительство с 1790 года. В 1781 году Шелихов
основал «Северо-Восточную компанию», которая в 1799 году была
преобразована в Русско-Американскую торговую компанию.
