Introduction to Logistics

LOGISTICS- is the process of planning and executing the sustainment of


forces in support of army operations.
COMBAT SERVICE SUPPORT- is the assistance provided to operating
troops primarily in the fields of supply, transportation, maintenance, and
health service support.
The following are the Functional Areas of Logistics
A) Supply – Includes requirement determination, flow of
requisition, storage and stock control, distribution and disposal
of all classes of supply.

B) Transportation – Includes determining the requirements,


processing of request, and periodic monitoring of service ability
of vehicles.

C) Maintenance – all actions taken to retain material in serviceable


condition and operational status.

D) Facilities and Installation – This function includes planning,


acquisition, construction, maintenance and disposition of real
estate properties.
Other Services
A) Food Services – the operation refer to the preparation of food
for the messing of the troops in the field or in garrison and
camps.

B) Health Services – Preventing, controlling and treating those


diseases, injuries or disabilities in order to preserve the fighting
capability of the troops.

C) Finance Services – services that cater to the financial


requirements of the troops.

D) Postal Services – Includes provision of prompt and free


delivery of mails

E) Chaplain Services – includes worship and religious services,


pastoral care and ministrations, religious and moral education,
guidance and counseling and social and cultural leadership.
F) Mortuary and Memorial Services – Includes all phases of
remains processing, from search and recovery to final
disposition.

G) Special Services – Includes programs pertaining to the


development and maintenance of the of the physical and mental
well-being of Army personnel through sports, entertainment and
recreational activities.
