Victimology Insights for Forensic Experts

Victimology is the scientific study of the psychological effects of crime on victims and their interaction with offenders and the legal system. It examines victim patterns and tendencies and how factors like class, race, and sexual orientation affect public and legal perceptions of victims. Victimology studies three main categories of victims - primary victims who are directly harmed, secondary victims who witness the crime, and related victims who have a relationship to the primary victim. The field helps forensic psychologists understand victim risk factors to aid in crime prevention and help law enforcement and the legal system understand different types of victims.
