Lesson Description Time
- To start the class, when the students walk in they will get to
work on the 3 questions on the board. There will be one
question where they have to identify the x-intercepts,
y-intercepts, vertex, axis of symmetry and domain and range.
Introduction The second question will be a graphing question, they will ~10 minutes
have to find the roots of the graph I provide. And the last will
be a factoring problem they must solve.
- I will then get the students to come up and write the answer
on the board for a question
- The teacher will provide the proof for the quadratic formula
to solve for x. The students will discuss in their pairs (or as a
class) why you would want to solve for the x. They will
explore that this is yet another way to find a root.
- Once the class has discussed why you would solve for x and
how to make the quadratic formula, I would like to show
them a video of a proof of it.

- We will look at the quadratic equation more closely
~ 30
Body afterwards and I will get the students to infer how they will
minutes
come up with the values for a, b, and c within the quadratic
formula. Once they understand the reasoning for the formula
and how to get the values then as a class we will do one
question together.
- Then in their pairs they will complete questions that find the
roots of equations using the quadratic formula. Use
think-pair-share.
- Then if the students finish early they can start their
homework questions. Pg. 419 #1, 4-7
- We will have a brief discussion about which way to solve the
Closure ~1 minute
equation is the most appealing so far to the students.
Reflection
Questions for the beginning of class:
`
1. Determine the vertex, intercepts, domain and range, axis symmetry of this graph.
2. Solve the equation by graphing: x2 + 6x+8=0
3. Solve the equation by factoring: x + 2x -3 =0
