Instructors of the Month

Tuesday & Thursday
Melanie Killen
Melanie Killen is a second year student at Acadia University and
a second year instructor for the Acadia S.M.I.L.E. program. She
is paired up with Jackson from Aldershot Elementary School
and has been a great buddy and friend to him. Melanie has
devoted extra time away from S.M.I.L.E. to design and create
a Visual Communication board to insure the best experience
possible for Jackson. Congratulations, Melanie!

Amanda Hansen
Amanda Hansen, a first year psychology student has shown an
incredible amount of energy from instructor training to the first
day she met her buddy. She was thrown a bit of a curve ball on
her first day when her buddy was a little upset to not be paired
with a male instructor. However, Amanda showed a lot of de-
termination by not giving up on her buddy. She never lost her
composure and did her best to make him feel as comfortable
as possible. At the end of the day, without a leader giving her
any advice they ended up having a fantastic day together with
many more to come!

Friday
Katie Jackson
My name is Katie Jackson and I am a fourth year History
major. I have volunteered with the Acadia S.M.I.L.E. Program
for four years now and have loved every part of it. I look
forward to S.M.I.L.E. every week because I get to see my
buddy Ashley! She is always excited to be there and has an
adorable smile of her face that makes my heart melt. She is
the highlight to my week! I can’t wait to see what the rest of
this year has in store for us!

a child. Angela is always in
great spirits and has shown
great commitment to working with Bella.
She always makes the experience fun with lots of activities and
well thought out goals to tackle. She further is always the first one
to help out other instructors when they need it. For all of her hard
work and the amazing attitude she brings to the program Angela
deserves to be the SMILE instructor of the month for September!

Nick Bray
Saturday S.M.I.L.E. is pleased to announce Nick Bray as our September Instructor of the Month! After
being moved around in our initial planning phases, Nick was finally placed with one
of our S.M.I.L.E. celebrities, Keaton. Nick got right into the groove of
things, asking questions about his new participant and looking at
Keaton’s file without missing a beat. His upbeat attitude, enthu-
siasm and passion for helping others allowed him and Keaton
to have an amazing first day, laughing and singing, playing
games and cracking some jokes! Unfortunately, Keaton was
away their second week but Nick once again showed why
he’s a game changer by showing up ready to work with an-
other participant, Colin, who came late. While waiting for Colin
to arrive Nick hung around the gym helping out where needed
and even pairing up for a bit with another instructor! Thank you so
much Nick, we look forward to seeing more
amazing things from you and Keaton!
