  Tropical Storm Ondoy (International Name: Ketsana)                             Due to the large area encompassed by Ondoy, it ranked as the 4th worst
   2nd most devastating tropical cyclone in 2009                                 natural disaster in the Philippines in terms of number of people affected.
   Struck the Philippines on September 26, 2009                                 Marikina City was severely affected by the onslaught of Typhoon Ondoy
   Damage to infrastructure and agriculture: P11 billion                         in Metro Manila. Marikina is a 1st class highly urbanized city with a total
   People affected: 4,901,234                                                    area of 21.52 sq. km. Back in 2007, it has a total population of 424,610.
   Families affected: 993,227
   People killed: 464                                                           According to the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics, it is estimated that

     Photos                                                                      It can be seen from the second photo that the typhoon signal warning
                                                                                  issued by PAGASA was only Signal No. 1 & 2 since this is based on the
                                                                                  maximum sustained wind speeds. However, typhoon Ondoy dumped a
                                                                                  very high volume rain. The amount of a month’s rainfall was released in
                                                                                  only 6 hours. A record high amount of rainfall at 455 mm. in 24 hours.
                                                                                  As such, it was not properly predicted that this typhoon would cause so
                                                                                  much damage and caught people off-guard.
                                                                                Lessons Learned:
                                                                                 As a result of the destruction caused by Ondoy, Republic Act No. 10121
                                                                                  or the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010
