Madrid is the historical capital of the Spain situated in Europe that was founded in 16th century that has an amazing
influence not only on its continent but in the whole world.

But aside from it being the center of Spain, Madrid is the seat of government, and residence of the Spanish monarch.
Madrid is also the political, economic and cultural center of the country for here you could find the oldest but stand still
firmly and aesthetically made infrastructures that put the city as one of the top global cities around the globe.

ECONOMY
The beautiful City of Madrid is the 3rd highest holder of gross domestic product or GDP in the whole association of
European Union (EU) and its strong influence in various fields such as in politics, education, entertainment, environment,
media, fashion, science, culture, and the arts are all contributors to its title as one of the world's major global cities.

This is due to large industrial sector that develops after 20th century and greatly expanded and diversified that making
the City of Madrid as the 2nd industrial city in Spain. But as the time goes by, the service sector become one of its
priority as it increases its demand that contributes highest share now on the GDP of the Spain.

This where the short list of programs that the City of Madrid are having focus on and it is all related directly with power
(central and regional government, headquarters of Spanish companies, regional headquarter of multinationals, financial
institutions) and with knowledge and technological innovation (research centres and universities). It is one of Europe's
largest financial centers and the largest in Spain. The city has 17 universities and over 30 research centers. It is the third
metropolis in the EU by population, and the fourth by gross internal product. Leading employers include Telefónica,
Iberia, Prosegur, BBVA, Urbaser, and Dragados.
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
Madrid is being featured as new smartest city of the Spain and luckily being compared with Barcelona. This is due to
increase in contributions of Madrid to the research and development of the society and its environment. Having 17
globally competitive universities and over 30 research centers in the capital, Madrid is leading on producing new nobel
knowledge and contributions especially in health and environmental issues.

One of their premier researches are the used of ECO and CERO taxis that are eco-friendly and the free usage of shared
vehicles that are 21,600 in numbers that are easily accessible around the city to lessen the contribution of carbon
emissions in the atmosphere as their goal is to have a sustainable development not only for the betterment of the
society but the future generations as well and the world, itself.

In fact, reducing pollution and noise are two of the most important tasks identified by the government. The city has an
extensive network of mobile laboratories and technicians who constantly monitor the environment. Two leading
monitoring agencies include the Center for Acoustic Studies and the Ecological Patrol. The city has a formal plan to clear
the air, protect open spaces, and restore historic buildings damaged by carbon particles. According to government
figures, sulfur dioxide emissions were reduced by 3,174 metric tons (3,500 tons) and suspended particles by 727 metric
tons (800 tons) annually between 1993 and 1999. The city uses seven treatment facilities to purify more than 16,000
liters (60,600 gallons) per second of wastewater. More than 907 metric tons (1,000 tons) of dregs per day are treated for
agriculture and other uses. Gas (methane and carbon dioxide) obtained from the dregs is used to produce electricity to
operate the wastewater treatment facilities.

CULTURAL INTERACTION
Madrid is globally well known for arts even since then as if you have remembered the time of Jose Rizal and Juan Luna as
they joined prestigious contests in painting in Madrid back in 1800's and won a gold. Then, now it is considered as one of
the top European destinations concerning art museums. Madrid is widely known to its breath-taking Golden Triangle of
Art, situated along the Paseo del Prado and composing the three lovely and aesthetic museums. The most prestigious
one is the Prado Museum, known for such highlights as Diego Velázquez's Las Meninas and Francisco de Goya's La maja
vestida and La maja desnuda. And this museum alone have already a huge number of collection currently comprises
around 7,600 paintings, 1,000 sculptures, 4,800 prints and 8,200 drawings, in addition to a large number of works of art
and historic documents. The other two museums are the Thyssen Bornemisza Museum, established from a mixed
private collection, and the Reina Sofía Museum, where Pablo Picasso's Guernica is exhibited, returned to Spain from
New York after more than two decades. Two many artworks, isn't? That is how colorful and culturally driven the Madrid
is for centuries.

In terms of sports, Madrid is the home to two world-famous football clubs, Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid. Due to its
economic output, high standard of living, and market size, Madrid is considered the leading economic hub of the Iberian
Peninsula and of Southern Europe. It hosts the head offices of the vast majority of major Spanish companies, such as
Telefónica, IAG or Repsol. Madrid is also the 10th most liveable city in the world according to Monocle magazine, in its
2017 index.
