Spooling Procedure

The spooling procedure outlines 13 steps for creating spools in piping projects, including avoiding U-shaped spools or those connecting piping in three axes, setting a maximum spool length of 12m and minimum pipe size of 2.5 inches, minimizing field welds on vertical pipes, requiring tack welds for flanges connecting to equipment, specifying a minimum pipe length of 1.5 diameters, limiting spool widths to 2m, including welding maps with flow direction, and not mapping the last joint unless connecting to equipment. Spools should not include field material and extra lengths of 10 cm are allowed in all directions between terminal points.

Spooling procedure

-      Don’t include field material in the spool

-      Avoid spools with U shape
-      Avoid spools connecting piping in three axis
-      Maximum length is 12m
-      Pipe size Larger than 2.5”
-      Minimize field weld on the vertical pipe
-      Flanges connecting to rotating equipment or underground piping to be tack weld
-      Smallest pipe length = 1.5 pipe diameter
-      Spool width not more than 2m
- Welding map to be with direction of flow
- No need to map last joint in the isometric except if isometric end connected to equipment
- Field run starts after 12m length
- Extra lengths will be 10 cm in all direction between 2 terminal points
