Impact Test Required

This document provides specifications for impact testing and inspection of piping materials for the Nawara and South Tunisia Gas Development Central Process Facility. It outlines required Charpy V-notch impact test procedures and minimum absorbed energy levels for various pipe materials like ASTM A106 Grade B, ASTM A333 Grade 6, and API 5L X60-PSL-2. It also requires inspection of pipes during manufacturing to relevant product standards and an Inspection and Test Plan to be submitted for approval prior to commencement of work. Pipes must also be properly identified with markings including stock code number, purchase order number, and heat number.

4.2.4 Impact Test

Charpy V-notch test shall be conducted following specifications of ASTM A370. Full
sized samples shall be used whenever possible. All specimens shall be taken with the
axis of the sample transverse to the direction of flow and with the notch perpendicular to
the surface. For plate, specimens may be taken transverse to the direction of rolling.

Carbon steel, low temperature carbon steel, high yield carbon steel and super duplex
steel materials shall be subjected to such test. Energy absorbed by the specimens shall
be as follows for the corresponding pipe materials (Norsok M-603 and ASME B31.3 Ta-
ble 323.3.5):

Test Tem- Minimum absorbed energy [J]

Pipe Material
perature Average Individual

ASTM A106 Grade B -29°C 18 14

ASTM A333 Grade 6 -46°C 27 20

ASTM A671 CC 65 Class 22 -46°C 27 20

ASTM A790 S32750 -46°C 45 35

API 5L X60-PSL-2 -29°C 40 30

For average values, at least three specimens per lot shall be impact tested.

ASTM A106 Grade B material shall pass an impact test only when the wall thickness of
the pipe is greater than 13 mm, as described in section 323.2.2 of ASME B31.3. Each lot
shall consist of all pipes within a 4.7 mm range of thickness and welded to the weld pro-
cedure, and when heat treated, done to the same heat-treating procedure and in the
same furnace. The maximum lot size shall be 60 m of pipe length.

4.3 Inspection

Inspection of pipes during manufacturing shall be in accordance with the relevant prod-
uct standard specification and the applicable section of ASME B31.3 and Station Piping
NDT Specification [Ref. 9].

CONTRACTOR shall submit a detailed Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) or Quality Control
Plan (QCP) for approval showing manufacturing, inspection and testing activities, its ac-
ceptance criteria prior to commencement of manufacturing. All Certification shall be 3.1
as per EN 10204.

4.4 Identification Marking Requirements

In addition to the marking requirements of the relevant Product Standard, each length of
pipe 2” NPS and larger shall have its Stock Code Number, Purchase Order Number and
