A Reflection/Reaction Paper on "Amazing Grace"

"Although my memory's fading, I remember two things very clearly. I'm a great sinner and Christ is a great
Savior." This line from John Newton is one of my favorite quote from the movie. It reminds of the sacrifice of
the Son of God for my salvation. I believe that I am a sinner and He is my Great Savior. Another line from
Wilberforce is, "I want you to remember that smell... remember Madagascar...remember, God made men
equal." Rich or poor, beautiful or ugly, still we are equal. He may be balck, but he is still a human. They may be
uneducated and poor but they are human like us. We should put ourselves in their position and know how they
feel when ever we discriminate them.

The drama film Amazing Grace which is directed by Michael Apted is a real-life story of William Wilberforce who
battled for the end of slavery during the British Empire. His evangelical faith in God prompted him to fight for
the principle of justice and human equality. Along this long quest of Wilberforce, he was influenced by his
mentor, John Newton, a former slave trader who turned into a pastor. The process was not that easy, instead,
it took a long period of time before Wilberforce and his comrades won this case. Faith and patience was tested
in him. It has a great impact in us this days as we are free compared to his time. The story can instill in us the
importance of equality. Another thing, the grace of God was portrayed in the film because he gave mercy to
Newton and freed him from slave-trading. He gave mercy to Wilberforce who waited for years and almost lose
hope, but still fought and won by the amazing grace of God. This inspires each and everyone to keep our
faithfulness in God no matter what circumstances we may face.

As a result of wilberforce's perseverance, slaves are no more. If not because of him, maybe we are one of the
slaves of the British Empire. It's a big thanks to him because he selflessly cared for slaves to be treated equally
as he said "God made men equal." And we are very blessed that we did not encounter that kind discrimination.
Ending the slave-trade was his greatest contribution to humanity. His works was well-appreciated until this
days, showing that he's contribution changed the world for the better. On the other hand, we can say that
Wilberforce was able to achieve his goal because of the influence of John Newton. As for Newton, he was the
author of one of the most well-known gospel of all time, Amazing Grace. It is a song that inspires every listener
by it's powerful message. It can change a person's life, perspective, and character. The song is very motivating,
inspiring, and encouraging especially to those people who have no goal in life and are hopeless. It gives hope
and make a person stronger in his/her spiritual life. Until now, the song is still popular and it has new versions
and rythms. It's a proof that the song have a great impact in our world.

The song Amazing Grace was developed by John Newton who was once a slave-trader but saved. He experience
the grace of God so many times which embolden him to write the song. Since he is once involve to the slave
issue, he was part of the story. William Wilberforce was motivated and inspired in the song Amazing Grace,
which gave him the desire to do what is right. Like Newton, Wilberforce is also a Christian and it was Newton
who influenced him. In the story, Wilberforce sang the song in front of many people with sincerity in his voice.
We can also see that for how many years of discouragement, they finally achieved what they desire. God's
grace was seen in both of the live of that two man. That's why it is entitled "Amazing Grace".

In life, we face unending challenges which gives us disappointments. We feel like we can never solve them, and
we eventually give up. But what is faith for if we won't use it. God is always there waiting for you to call unto
Him. He is faithful so be faithful to Him. You can't do that alone, You need He's grace. In order to be victorious
in life, you need patience, perseverance, devotion, a positive outlook in life, and the power of the Almighty
God.

The movie was unexplainably wonderful. It implies different moral lessons. The movie "Amazing Grace"
portrayed that nothing is impossible in life. It also reminds me that each of us have a mission so we mist know
the real meaning of our lives.
