GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS: DO as indicated in the specific activities. Down load this form and answer

The following are the objectives for Chapter 1, hence, they are the basis for the evaluation activities indicated
herein.
(1) Deduced the differences of the terms associated with MTBMLE as per implications given.
(2) Cited situational examples for each of the definitions given.
(3) Stated comparative reflections about MT definitions prior and after learning official definitions.

ACTIVITY 1: VENN DIAGRAM FOR DEFINITIONS: Use the following diagram to present the
deductions you made about the similarities and differences of the terms; language, dialect and
vernacular. After which, state your thoughts on how important or relevant these terms are in
studying how to teach MTBMLE. (15 PTS)

Language,dialect and vernacular plays a very important role in studying how to teach
Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education. Language is a primary medium in the
educational set up whereas students and teachers exchange ideas and informations
effectively. Everything that a teacher taught to his or her learner is based and expressed
through language. Without language,a teacher and a learner won't be able to express their
thoughts or ideas . Moreover,it is said that language determines one's
culture,traditions,values and attitudes.
Using dialect as well as vernacular enhances the social and cognitive development of
learners. The learners will be able to share their native dialect with the people they meet in
our society. In addition,learners and teachers must be exposed to different dialects for
them to have an understanding and be able to work better inside and outside of the

ACTIVITY 2: SITUATIONAL EXAMPLES: Write down a situation (a situation in this activity does not
refer to a word or one sentence, it is a paragraph presenting a short story or a description) which
presents an example for the given concept. (30 PTS)

Language is said to be a system of traditional spoken manual or written


symbols by using ability of which human beings,as contributors of a social
team and participants in its culture,express themselves. An example situation
for this is , Mona is a deaf student enrolled in Easter College SPED Center. It is

thru Filipino sign language that Mona is capable to get admission to
information that her teachers are teaching. To be able to answer or give her
ideas about their topics,she uses sign languages and gestures to communicate
with her teachers and classmates.

In dialect,you can identify who the speaker through the phrases or words he
or she is using for communicating with other people. An example situation for
this is when my childhood friend came home from abroad and visit me last

year. We went to the mall for shopping when she asked where the restroom
is.We,Filipinos refer to use CR or comfort room rather than restroom. The
word restroom is what they use in Canada .

Vernacular is reffered to as a language that a group of people in a unique part


of a country uses naturally specifically in formal conditions or
situations.When my household spends vacation in Nueva Vizcaya where my

father's household are residing,we talk with them the use of Ibaloy
language.This language is only determined or heard in Nueva Vizcaya, it is not
native in Japan or Taiwan.

I was born in Itogon,Benguet. My father belongs to the Ibaloy and Kalanguya


tribe while my mother is an Ilocano and Kankana-ey.My mother and father
taught Ilocano at home as my first language. When we moved to Kibungan
when I was three years old,my grandmother taught Kankana-ey in order for

me to understand and speak to the people in our community. When I went to
school, English and Filipino were taught and used inside our classroom.
Though I discovered specific languages, I am nonetheless comfortablle in
using Iloko as my most important langauge in speaking with the society.

It is described to be a language that a persona or neighborhood makes use of


for public communication,especially in trade,higher coaching and
administration.
Second In my case,my second language is Filipino. I learned it better than English due
language to the fact that it is frequently the used language our instructors or teachers
speak with us. Even in when I recite in English during my high school years , it
is more comfortable and I can express properly my ideas using the Filipino
language.

Mother Tongue Mother Tongue the first language or domestic language. It is the first
language a child uses for verbal exchange at home.

My cousin whom I grew up with moved when her father found a better job in
Pangasinan. Even though Ilocano was frequently used by the people around
her when she started learning in Pangasinan , her Mother Tongue is

Kankana-ey. She still knows her Kankana-ey even though different languages
were taught to her. When they come visit us during holidays, she still speak
Kankana-ey fluently when having a conversation with me.

1. The Mother Tongue plays a very essential function in a kid's identification and self-esteem.Learners
begin their schooling in a language they apprehend and improve a sturdy basis in their first language.It
provides the foundation for the child's potential to learn.The child finds it easier to study their second
language and different college subjects.

2. The use of mother tongue is an expression of one's culture. It aims to advance the recognition and
appreciation of the learners to their own culture. Mother Tongue is also one of the most necessary way
of maintaining our culture alive. It will help the learners continue to be related to their way of life and
their roots.
