Ms.
Alyssa Stehlin completed her secondary education teaching internship during the
2019-2020 and (beginning of) 2020-2021 school year at Romeo High School in the Romeo Community
School District. Romeo is located in Macomb County in Michigan and has recently begun the Academy
Model at their new high school, which focuses on teaching students through a career centered
curriculum, offering numerous Career Technical and Educational courses. Romeo High School’s
schedule is on the block, alternating A and B days, and classes are 90 minutes. During this school
year, Alyssa taught in a World History classroom and worked within the Business, Entrepreneurship,
and Innovation Academy.
During this time, Alyssa excelled in several areas, but her greatest strength was her ability to
create standard-driven lessons that incorporated student-focused activities while utilizing new
technology. Alyssa spent countless hours to ensure that her lessons not only were tied to the new
Social Studies standards, but were also built upon the prior knowledge of students and connected to
their lives; she incorporated activities in all of her lessons that offered student movement (a must in a
90 minute classroom) and engaged all levels of learners. With a sound knowledge in her content,
Social Studies, Alyssa was able to not only share her academic knowledge with the students, but her
own travel experiences to the areas of study as well. Then, when the pandemic hit, Alyssa did not shy
away from teaching online, but rather fully immersed herself within the new hybrid plan. Continuing her
internship the following school year due to the spring school closures, Alyssa was able to maintain
quality classroom instruction while teaching students both in-person and online simultaneously. Alyssa
fearlessly tried new ways of teaching, such as utilizing student interactive tools such as Nearpod,
Jamboard, and Ed Puzzle. Alyssa excelled at creating collaborative lessons despite the restrictions of
the new hybrid plan.
Besides her instructional and technological strengths, Alyssa’s attention to students’ needs and
learning were exceptional. Before the school year began, Alyssa meticulously organized and reviewed
all Individual Educational Plans and 504s, and was able to arrange the classroom to best meet their
unique needs. She offered tutoring after school to help all students and provided testing tips before all
summative tests. Alyssa made herself available based on the students’ needs, and responded
promptly to all emails from both student, parent, and staff.
Throughout her entire internship, Alyssa maintained a professional relationship with students
and staff. She always arrived early to work and would stay well past contractual hours, working with her
mentor teacher, assisting in after school clubs, or tutoring students. During the school day, Alyssa
contributed positively to the weekly Student Learning Communities, SLCs, which were newly created

within Romeo’s academy model. An hour long, these meetings focused on providing interventions for
struggling students, and Alyssa’s knowledge of each student allowed her to be a positive supporting
figure. Alyssa also attended weekly Professional Learning Communities and worked well with staff
members to create a quality curriculum; her knowledge of the new Michigan State Social Standards
made her a valuable asset to these meetings and development of a new pacing guide for World
History.
Alyssa’s kind, social, and hard-working personality made her an easy teacher to work with and
learn from. She was always willing to take on new initiatives and learning styles and strived to create a
safe, welcoming environment for all students to learn. I am confident that Alyssa will continue to excel
in shaping students’ lives and educational future.
