          For Professor Michaels
          There’s no flower as rare
As the one blooming in the dark
On the edge of a cliff
            Shaky and precarious
               Are you in a trance?
          It’s an intoxicating perfume
If you try to pick me off the ground
You’ll be more than a little surprised
Not even gloves can save you from these thorns
          Chances are you want me
Just be careful with the thorns
Don’t get pricked with my poison
I won’t be making it easy for you
This is just the beginning after all
       Your eyes beam with curiosity
And I take some time to enjoy the thrill
But if you get too invested
The harder the fall will be
             Petals in a crimson hue
Changed from white by your cherry lips
As if made entirely out of snow
I can’t tell if it’s you or me who’s melting
But I’d rather not think about it now
I see you from a distance
My thorns holding a menacing glint
People are drawn to things that shine
Especially if they fit atop their palms
Make up your mind or you’ll regret it
If you get lost use my light as a compass
I’ll stop playing coy for now
           Blossom with me tonight
Just be careful to not fall asleep
Don’t let the poison reach your brain
Stronger than my thorns my gaze stabs onto you
And it only makes you more curious
            There’s nowhere to hide
I’ve found myself enjoying this thrill
           And sharing your curiosity
But the one losing in who falls harder
             Seems to still be you
If you chase down the light
You’ll surely end up back here
And I’ll notice you in the distance
As you approach me you’ll realize
Your feet are moving on your own
I’ve found myself enjoying this thrill
           And sharing your curiosity
But the one losing in who falls harder
             Seems to still be you
            Blooming in the dark
            Blooming in the dark
Not only falling harder but deeper
If you keep it up you won’t see light again
