Peter Tchaikovsky
Born in: Votkinsk, Russia, 1840
Died in: St. Petersburg, Russia, 1893
Peter, after hearing Mozart's 'Don Giovanni' on a music box, began begging for music lessons. As a young
boy he constantly would tap out melodies and on one such day when he was tapping a melody on the window
pane, he happened to tap too hard which broke the glass and badly cut his hand. For Tchaikovsky, playing the
piano only made him too excited to sleep.
For his father, Mr. Tchaikovsky didn't think music was a fit career, so Peter became a law clerk. It crushed
him immensely to separate from his mother when he was sent off to law school. It was month after her death
that Peter Tchaikovsky wrote his first music.
Writing music was the only thing that Peter felt would redeem him from the worthlessness that he felt inside
him, and he quickly obtained many musical ideas at that.
Many people wonder what Peter did with the money that he received and to tell the truth, he gave half of the
money away and the other half he spent. His tasted were said to be expensive. For example, when Peter used
transportation it was always cabs, while he had very expensive food and wine. He smoked constantly and he
also wore expensive perfumes.
As for Peter's looks, he was said to be handsomely dressed impeccably all the way down to his cane and white
gloves that he had.
Peter was quite man. He would have strong tea and lemons every night at eight o'clock sharp and was sure to
wear huge dark sunglasses when he didn't want to be recognized.
The last country house that he ever lived in was very private and were surrounded by flower beds.
He had constant headaches and indigestion and always thought he was about to die. Once he burned all the
volumes of his diary when he conceived that after his death everyone would then know the secrets he had.
Peter once tried to commit suicide by diving into an icy river but he survived and began a long friendship with
a mysterious rich widow that was nine years older than he was. This lady offered to send Peter whatever
money he needed.
She then unexpectedly broke off all correspondence without explanation, leaving him distraught. He died
three years later at the age of fifty-three, mumbling her name.
