HMI Configuration Setup r1

The document discusses how to set up and use an HMI configuration file provided with MKVI Toolbox versions 8 and above. It replaces the SDB Exchange for importing points into the Cimplicity Database and automatically updates required files. The summary creates alarms in the newer method by checking the 'Alarm' box in pin definitions. It shows how to create an HMI configuration file by opening a new file and selecting options. Finally, it discusses using the file by doing a put, get, validate, and build/calc to import points and update files.

HMI Configuration File Setup and Use

The purpose of this document is show how to set up and use the HMI configuration file provided
with MKVI Toolbox versions 8 and above. This tool replaces the SDB Exchange for importing points
into the Cimplicity Database. It also automatically updates files that are required for TCI as follows:
Alarm.dat, Event.dat, Hold.dat, SOE.dat and UNIT_EGD.dat. It updates the Hosts if required. It runs the
DDBuild2.exe. It changes the Enetalm.dat and the EGD icn.ini file. The file extension is *.hmb.
Reference material can be found in GEH-6421F Chapter 13. There needs to be one of these files on each
of the HMI servers both local and remote. Each *.hmb file will be unique for that HMI. These files are
normally provided with the site specific software.

NOTE: For the update to the Alarm.dat, Event.dat etc. to work with this HMI Configuration file it is
necessary that the *.m6b is using the newer method for alarms, you can not use the ALMGRP blocks for
alarms. You should check the m6b file to see if ALMGRP blocks are used. If they are the hmb file will
not work for alarms.

WARNING: One CAN NOT mix the old (ALMGRP blocks) and the new way of doing alarms
in the same m6b file. It will render the file useless. It also not recommended that you change
from one method to the other.

How to create Alarms:

In Toolbox versions 8 that use the new method, the alarms are created by checking the ‘Alarm’ box in the
pin definition window. The text for the alarm is the text entered under the Name of the pin. In Toolbox
versions 9 each pin definition window has an Alarm Tab. The Alarm box is checked here and PRC
(process) is selected. The HMI uses the text from the pin definition for the alarm.dat file.

How to create the HMI Configuration File:

-Open Toolbox and click on file new. Under the System Configuration Tab select Turbine HMI
Configuration and click on OK as shown below:

-This will open a file similar to the one shown in the figure below. After selecting - options,
privilege, level 2, right click on hmdv1 and modify.

The example shown here is for a local HMI Server on Unit#1. Refer to Figure 1 below. In keeping with
Drive Systems standard names and addressing the Device will be GT1. This must exist in the System file
(sys1.syb) and should have been put in the SDB. If not create GT1 in the system file resource and put it
into the database. The PDH Computer name will be the name of the HMI as found in the Start/Control
Panel/Settings and double clicking on the Network Icon. Again the standard names here will be
GT1_SVR. A copy of a standard hosts file that Salem is currently shipping with the HMI’s is included at
the end of this document for reference. The Network Name is PDH1. The UDH computer name is the
same as the PDH with a ‘U’ in front of it. This will also appear in the hosts file. IP addresses are the
addresses of the HMI you are working on for both the UDH and PDH. Next browse for the location of
the Cimplicity project. Under TCI Site Folder Name it is looking for the TCI folder not the location of
the Site directory. In this example the G:\ psuedo drive is used. The location of the actual TCI folder
drive will work also (i.e. c:\Program Files\GE Control System Solutions\TCI).

FIGURE 1
Click OK and now right click on Hardware and I/O Definitions and Insert First. Select EGD1 from the
drop down menu and click OK.

This will put an EGD Network under the I/O Definitions. Now put into the SDB. This puts the Device
GT1 into the SDB.

Right click on the EGD1 and select Insert First. It will go to the SDB and display all of the available

Exchanges. There should now be all of the exchanges related to G1 i.e. G1:EXCH1, G1:EXCH2 and the
ones for the exciter and the static start. See the figure above. On a multi-unit site it will show all of the
units that are in the SDB. For a Remote Server one would select all of the units that will be displayed in
Cimplicity.

Select all of the appropriate exchanges. Click on the first one that you want and use the shift and/or the
CTRL keys to select the rest. Click OK. The file is now ready to use.

Using the HMI configuration file:

First it is necessary to do a put and a get. The get from the SDB should get all of the signals that are in
the SDB and on the Exchanges that you have inserted into the *.hmb file. It should look something like
Figure 2.

Next it will be necessary to Validate and then do a Build/Calc. This will do all of the items mentioned in
the beginning of this document. Below is a typical log view from Toolbox after doing this.

You should now go and be able to see the changes in all of the revised files.
A typical Standard hosts file is shown below. When running the *.hmb file it will check for all of the
Host’s names and the associated addresses that are in the SDB against the addresses in the Hosts file. If it
finds the same Host name and IP address in the hosts file and the IP address is un-commented (no # sign
in the first column) and starts in the first column, it will not change anything. If it does not find the name
and corresponding address it will add them at the end of the file along with a comment.
