Assignment 1: Conduct Opinion Polls for Bihar Assembly Elections 2020
Introduction
The project was based on forecasting results for Bihar 2020 Assembly elections. Then a survey was
designed through a questionnaire and was floated to common mass over and around the region of Bihar
mostly and the responses were gathered. It enables to develop and test powerful statistical models for
predicting elections. Based on the survey results, opinion poll was made.
The questionnaire was sent to 200 people. The sample selection was based on the below factors:
    1. Location- I tried to cover all constituencies. It allowed me to get 3-4 observations from particular
       area.
    2. Demographics- I tried to cover people from all age groups, profession and all gender. Since
people from different profession and age group has different expectations from the
government, it gives a clear idea of their views.
Analysis
1. If Assembly elections are held in Bihar tomorrow, which party would you vote for?
The responses clearly portray that BJP has definitely gained popularity over the years and has made a
mark in common mass’ life but the percentage is not such that tables cannot be turned down by the
time of election. If the Mahagatbandhan still continues, then INC, JDU and RJD can give a tough fight to
BJP.
   2. Which party did you vote for in the last assembly elections?
Irrespective of leading the opinion poll and popularity, it seems BJP has lost some preference than
the last assembly elections. This reveals issues are definitely there which has not been looked upon.
However, RJD, JDU and INC are in a better position than last assembly elections.
Voting preference
   3. If Assembly elections take place in Bihar tomorrow, then who would you like to see as the
next Chief Minister of the State?
Since most of them preferred Nitesh Kumar, according to this, JDU will win get 63.6% of vote share
and with Nitish Kumar as CM. This can be possible seeing the switch of voters and due to
Mahagatbandhan.
Awareness of initiatives
4. How effective has been the Bihar government’s liquor prohibition policy?
It seems most of the people are somewhat satisfied with this initiative and it has brought some changes
to the environment.
JDU, RJD and BJP took lot of initiatives to approach people and convince them for voting in last few
months. While JDU was repeatedly advertising through recorded messages, phone calls, radio,
metros. This can be seen as recall value of BJP was fairly high when asked which party approached
them or talked about voting for them.
   5. Did a candidate/party worker of the following parties come to your house to ask for your
vote in the last one month?
6. Were you or any of your family members contacted by the following parties through a
phone call or recorded voice or SMS or WhatsApp in the last one month?
Assignment 2: Summarization of Bihar Assembly Elections 2015 Results
The table below shows % of vote for different parties-JDU, RJD, BJP, INC and others(amalgamating
vote shares for all other parties plus NOTA) in 243 constituencies of BIHAR ASSEMBLY.
These three parties- INC, JDU and RJD contested elections together as ‘Mahagathbandhan’ and hence
only one of three parties contested from one constituency. The rest two ate mentioned as 0.
For BJP, 0 denotes that BJP did not contest election from a particular constituency.
