1. Background information
My name is Ursu Mariana, I graduated from the Pedagogical College "Alexandru cel Bun" from
Călăraşi in 2001and started my teaching charier as a primary school English teacher. After that I attended
the Faculty of Letters, at Tiraspol State University located in Chişinău, successfully graduated in 2008,
and I also began teaching Romanian. Teaching elementary level pupils was fine, but it was also a very
difficult job. Anyway it was sorrowful to break up with them after 3 years of hard work, so in 2014, I
accomplished the program of professional retraining on specialty English language and literature, and now
I teach English in secondary classes, too. Recently I‟ve graduated my Master Degree in teaching
philological disciplines, both at The Institute of Education and Science. This way during my 17 years of
training experience in "Vasile Alecsandri" High School from Călăraşi town, I have been teaching English
in primary and secondary classes and at the same time Romanian in gymnasium and high school. After
conferring teaching degree II in 2011, more exactly in February 2012, our lyceum was undergone to a
frontal control, initiated by our District Department of Education, and as a result I was recommended to
confer the 1st teaching degree. This way I decided to follow this proposal, as I think it‟s a great chance to
improve my professional skills, to enhance my proficiency and to become better as a specialist.
2. Arguments in favor of the applicant
2.1. Evidence of students' academic progress
School success shows the students‟ positive alternative, favorable, optimal level of training.I always tell
my students: “Success doesn‟t just come and find you. You have to go out and get it”. School performance
can be achieved only by ensuring an effective educational approach. Combining the traditional teaching
strategies and the modern ones, practicing collaborative training, motivating students through various
teaching learning strategies, using the modern technology in teaching,fostering even the most trifling
progress of my students, being myself a model of performance are just my tips that help me to provide my
students‟ schooling progress. I will present some diagrams representing the academic achievement of
students in the classes I teach.

progress depends on the students‟ studying abilities, the level of the class and motivation, that‟s why it‟s
normal the progress rate to differ from a class to another.
2.2. Evidence of professional development
Being a teacher means to assume a great responsibility, being obliged to study and develop yourself
continually, to read more and to prepare thoroughly for every lesson. Personally, I always tried to deal
with the challenges of the progress in education, to be in step with all the changes and innovations related
to the educational field, managing to be a model of personality with various performances for my students,
to apply different motivational modern strategies in my teaching practice, taking into account the interests,
needs, age particularities of students and their level of training and development, to handle modern
technology and online tools, implementing them successfully into my lessons, in order to make them more
attractive and colourful.
During the last 5 years I tried to improve my professional skills through:
1) Continuous Training Courses, workshops, trainings and other forms provided for by legislation:
* 01. 03. 2012 - 18. 05. 2012 - continuous training at the State University in Chisinau;
* 02.01.2014-23.12.2014 –the retraining program on specialty English language and literature;
* 19.10. 2015 - 06.11.2015 - continuous training at the Institute of Education and Science inChişinău.
During these courses I enriched my knowledge and improved my abilities in various fields of teaching
competence:
*theprofessional competence;
*thepedagogical competence;
*thepsychosocial competence;
*thetechnological competence;
*themanagerial and career management competence.
2) Trainings, seminaries and workshops organized at local and regional levelon different useful
topics:
* 16.05.2011 - "Lesson management from the perspective of the quality";
* 14. 11. 2011 - "The motivation for learning - an important factor of schooling progress";
* 25.11.2011 - "Developing critical thinking in order to motivate students to study school subjects";
*19.04.2012 -"Inclusion of the children with special educational requirements in school –a strong
necessity";
*12.11.2012 - "The interdependence of relationship between the family and school in the process of
children education";
* 22.12. 2012 - "The teacher's role in preventing and controllingthe students‟ wrong behavior";
* 13.03.2013 - "Vices of the XXI century - Violence against Children"
* 23.08.2013 - Quality Management in High School "VasileAlecsandri";
* 15.10.2014 - "The prophylaxis of the professional burning syndrome”;
* 18.03. 2015 - "Homework. Scientific and regulatory requirements";
* 15.04. 2015 - "Teaching Strategies training, assessment of specific competencies."
All these activities were useful and had a great impact on my professional proficiency.
3) Reading specialty literature on issues I am interested in:
* using the computer and other modern technologies in teaching English;
*thestrategies of increasing the learning motivation, pupils' creativity, imagination andcritical thinking at
English lessons;
* forming and developing the specific competences of the foreign languages through collaborative global
projects;
*tips of implementing the online tools in teaching English as a foreign language.

2.3. Evidence of implementation the results of the continuous training courses in designing and
managing the teaching process
Right from the beginning of my career 17 years ago, graduating college "Alexandru cel Bun" from
Călăraşi and being engaged as a primary school English teacher, I tried to make my lessons interesting and
special, every time, selecting carefully the most suitable modern methodology for each taught content.
The main challenge I faced then was the lack of visual aids that are absolutely necessary at this schooling
level. I used to use blackboard drawings, images cut from different old books and magazines, paintings
and pictures, it was a very difficult job. Attending a training course at Pedagogical State University “Ion
Creangă” for the foreign language teachers I learned that this problem can be solved in no time using the
computer, just with a click I could select the suitable pictures, images or drawings from the internet.
Immediately, another problem appeared – the lack of computers in our school at that time – some old
models in the computer studies room where I had no access. Anyway I tried to use this opportunity as
often as possible.
Some years later, I decided to continue my studies, so I attended the Faculty of Letters of the Tiraspol
University State (2003-2008), at the same time I attended training courses to obtain skills of operating the
computer (2006), where I learned how to use Word and Excel applications. Finishing these courses, I
bought a personal computer and began to elaborate all my teaching material - long-termplansand the
lesson ones, tests-papers and worksheetsin electronic format. I alsobegin to use computer at my lessonsin
order to equipthem with audio-visual materials: images, video and voice equipment, music record, songs
etc. Thus, I was the first teacher in our school, who presented a public lesson assisted by computerin
2009.It was high appreciated by my colleagues and the institution administration. As a result I understood
that the computer is a great tool and it would play an important role in teaching process in future.Soon I
noticed that the usage of the computer stimulates the student‟s attention and interest and motivates them to
be actively involved in the educational process, a fact I mentioned in the self-evaluation report for
conferring the II teaching degree with the theme ”Modern teaching techniques and strategies
implementation for increasing the motivation of learning English in primary classes” in 2011,
demonstrating that using computers at English lessons is one of the most effective strategies to increase
students‟intrinsic motivation.
Participating in 2012 at continuous training courses at the Pedagogical State University "Ion
Creangă", I learned how to make Power Point presentations and I started using it as a tool of presenting an
English lesson from the begging till the end including images, text, music, background and even media -
vocal or video files. So I decided to give continuity to my research topic and to formulate a new theme for
the next 5 years: “The impact of using digital and online tools on the specific skills development”.
In 2014, attending the retraining program on specialty English language and literature, I had a
computer course where I learned how to use the interactive whiteboard, a very important competence for a
modern teacher. Unfortunately, I use it only occasionally, because it's only one in all high school and is in
the computer room, where they can‟t go too often, because my lessonsand computer studies ones take
place at the same time. Then I followed the Master Degree Studies (2014-2016) where I was trained to
usethe computer as a researching tool for date processing and analysis and also the graphical organization
of the information, another very important professional skill for a modern teacher.
In October 2015, attending continuous training courses, at the Institute of Education and Science, I
had the opportunity to attend a Skype session with a teacher from the USA, who shared his teaching
experience. I understood that Skype can beused as a teaching tool for inviting guests from any part of the
world to join the lesson and to speak on the topic we study.They can be native English speakers,
specialists in various domains and other personalities, as it can be implemented in different subjects. On
February 11th 2016, I reapeted this experience with my 5th form students. I invited Dean Vallejo, a Peace
Corps Volunteer who works in Soroca, for a Skype session at a lesson on topic “Holidays”. He told the
pupils about the holidays in the US. First he spent a lot of time talking about Thanksgiving Day, since it is
not celebrated in Moldova. He also told them about Gasparilla Pirate Festival, an annual celebration held
4
in the city of Tampa, Florida, his mother land and shared some picture she took there
[http://magicenglishmagicenglish.weebly.com/teaching-resources-and-materials.html]. The students liked
the session and expressed their oppinions about it posting them on my personal blog as homework
[http://magicenglishmagicenglish.weebly.com/homework/-skype-session-impressions#comments].
2.4. Evidence of involvement in the educational activity of the institution
Acting in the Theoretical Lyceum “Vasile Alecsandri” and teaching two disciplines, I am a member
of the both Romanian language and literature and, at the same time, Foreign Languages department, so I
share my teaching experience with in different methodological activities organized inside these chairs and
also with my colleagues belonging to other curricular domain professorships.
Year by year I participate in different trainings, projects, workshops at regional and municipal levels,
organized by the Institute of Education and Science or by the American Councils in collaboration with the
Ministry of Education of the Republic of Moldova, where I learn a lot about the innovative directions in
education. Everything I learn about I always share with my colleagues through:
1) Public lessons:
This year I have presented 3 public lessons in the 5th form.
18.11.2015 - „Round up” – Lesson-contest;
24.11.2015 - „School”;
26.11. - „What is your favourite subject”;
2) Trainings and workshops:
Attending Mastery Degree studies I had a training course about the role of evaluation in teaching process
and the evaluation referential, a document created to help the teachers to appreciate and grade correctly
the students‟ oral and written assignments. After that I planned and organized 3 trainings with the teachers
from our institution to share my knowledge:
29.05.2014 - "Assessment - an important component of the educational process";
21.05.2015 - "The paradigm of skills assessment based on the referential of evaluation";
11.24.2015 - "Efficient strategies of development and assessment listening skill in the foreign language
classes".
In September 2015 I attended the School of Blogging project for English teachers from Moldova, that
lasted 6 months of E-learning and its aim was to train 25 Moldovan EFL teachers from the regions to
integrate blogs in their teaching practice. It finished in February and I also planned and organized a
training session in my institution to share the experience gained in project untitled: “Blogging school face
to face training” [link:http://magicenglishmagicehglish.weebly.com/sharing-experiences].
3) Extracurricular activities [http//magicenglishmagicenglish.weebly.com/my-extra-curricular-
activities.html]:
Every year I organize Valentine‟s Day Parties with funny activities for my students: lively games,
decorations, snacks, music and dances and every time they are different as I don‟t like to use the same
scenario twice.
This year I celebrated a Valentine‟s Day with my 5th form on the 12th of February. I decorated my
classroom with different size red heart-shapes, coloured posters representing the symbols of Valentine„s
Day, heart wreaths and chains and, of course, colorful balloons. It was the first party of this kind in their
life. They were very excited. We had a lot of very different activities and all of them were funny. We
solve a crossword, made a heart-shaped puzzle, played games, created a Love Tree, shared Valentines,
sang songs and danced.
On February 29th I organized with the same class an intercultural contest between 2 teams: the
Americans and the British. The contest was based on 5 tasks. The teams had to answer questions about
geographical position, culture, places of interest, holidays, personalities from the USA and British Royal
Family and other interesting facts they had learned about English speaking countries during the lessons.
They also had a written task - to complete a text about Westminster Abbey. Then they had to guess the

5
sights of London or from the USA by their description or pictures. The student demonstrated good
knowledge of English speaking countries culture.
All above mentioned activities, lessons, extracurricular activities and trainings were highly
appreciated and had a very good feedback.
2.5. Evidence of personal contribution to the increase of the prestige and image of the
educational unit
During my teaching experience of permanent activity in the T.L. “VasileAlecsandri” from Călăraşi, I
tried to promote a favorable image of this institution through:
* active participation in seminars, trainings, conferences, workshops at district and republican level;
* participation in English Theatre Contests organized every year by the District Educational Department
Foreign Language Coordinator;
* participation in national and international projects.
On December 24th 2012, I participated with a group of 4th form students at the 1stedition of the district
English Theatre contest where we acted on the stage the Aesop‟s fable: “The ant and grasshopper” and my
students were awarded with the 1stplace diploma.
On July 7th2015, I took part in i-Engage International Teaching conference where I heard abouti-
EARN (International Education and Resources Network) a non-profit organization made up of over
30,000 schools and youth organizations in more than 140 countries, that empowers teachers and young
people to work together online on collaborative projects using the Internet and other new communication
technologies. On September 26th 2015, I participated in an i-Engage workshop where I learned how to
participate in i-EARN projects. I accepted the challenge and during this school year I have joined 4 i-
EARN projects:
1. Our story book;
2. Holiday Card Exchange;
3. My name around the world;
4. A day in my life.
Most of all my students enjoyed ”Our story book” Project. It is a project that gathers different ideas
from various cultures or countries to complete an amazing story. About 15 willing students from the 5th,
the 6th and 8th grades were involved in this project from October 1stto November 30th 2015. Students
have proposed ideas and titles for the book, at last the title one of my students proposed was selected “I
just think and I am there”. The first three parts of the book were written in two institutions from
Macedonia and one school from Pakistan. The last part was created in Moldova by 3 willing students who
wrote the content of the last part, selected images and drew pictures for the book. The rest of the students
read all the parts the story and performed various tasks based on reading, speaking, listening and writing.
They also contributed with ideas to continue the story, proposing and describing the sights of Moldova
that deserve to appear in the book [http://magicenglishmagicenglish.weebly.com/our-story-book]. After
the book was finished, one of the students created a movie based on the part they wrote. The students who
created the book joined a webinar of participants in the project, which took place on November 25th,
finishing the project.
Being involved ”Our story book” Project, the students gained knowledge about the culture of the
partner countries (Macedonia and Pakistan); developed the abilities of writing an artistic text in English,
applying their knowledge of vocabulary and grammar, arranging a text and images on the page, reading
and recording a text using the digital tools, selecting the main ideas of a read text; learned formulating and
expressing their opinions, both orally and in writing; took photos and painted pictures; created a movie,
selecting the suitable images; learned how to use a blog. All these activities contributed to the
development of linguistic, communicative, cultural, interdisciplinary, civic and methodological (digital)
skills, leading to the increased of students‟ imagination, creativity and critical thinking.For me as a
teacher, ”Our story book” i-EARN project was a great experience. It was very easy to implement it as it is

6
well-planned step by step and its facilitator, Vinny Tsao from Taiwan, was always in touch with the
participants, informing us about everything happening in the project and supporting us.
Another project I implemented with success was “Holiday card exchange”. About 30 willing
students from the 5th, the 6th and 8th grades have made about 70 Winter Holiday Cards that were sent
together with information about Moldova, its geographical position, capital, sights, culture, customs and
traditions related to religious holidays (New Year, Christmas, Easter) and national (Independence Day,
Our Language) people from Moldova, recipes of our traditional food in 7 partner institutions from 6
countries (The USA, Russia, The Ukraine, India, Lithuania and Taiwan) from which we received in
exchange greetings and other interesting information about their culture
[http://magicenglishmagicenglish.weebly.com/holiday-card-exchange].
Making the cards, students practiced using various techniques and tools (working with paper, cutting,
drawing, decorating, color matching).The project gave students the opportunity to develop their
imagination, responsibility and critical thinking in the process of making the cards. They also gained
knowledge and formed attitudes towards the culture of the partner countries, developed their abilities of
writing various types of texts in English (descriptive, narrative, artistic, scientific, congratulatory
messages, writing address), reading and using various online communication tools (blog, Skype, E-mail).
In the project "My name around the world" a group of 5th form students were involved. They found
out why they are called the name, whose name they have got, who gave them the name, who was the first
person in their family with similar name. They looked for famous people with the same name from
different countries. They also researched the number of students with their names in our lyceum. The
students wrote students acrostics describing themselves, starting with the letters contained in their names.
The students made cards where they wrote the description of their names. Working on the project, first
they shared the information in their poems with their classmates, teachers and parents. Then they used
Edmodo to share their texts, poems and photos with the students from Beacon house School System,
Gulshan Primary 6, Karachi town, Pakistan, involved in this project and guided by Ms. Komal Waseem
and my personal blog [http://magicenglishmagicenglish.weebly.com/my-name-around-the-world]. By the
way they still do it. They also read the posts of other students and replied them. They learned many
interesting things about their own names and other person‟s name. They drew the conclusion that names
in Moldova and names in Pakistan are too different to find similar names, anyway they make many pen
friends, practiced English and learned a lot of new words, in special adjectives. ”My name around the
world” is a great project.
Another project I implemented through blogging was "One Day in the Life", an international project
in which students exchanged photographs/images describing days in their lives, and then made cross-
cultural comparisons. Students discussed aspects of a typical day (like visiting the market or going to
school) or a special day (like vacations, birthdays, celebrations, or holidays).In this project the students
practiced using different online tools:
 Talking about their favourite holiday celebrations they created word clouds
using WORDLE and TAGUL.
 Discribing a holiday the celebrate with their family they used Voki.
 Speakingaboutthe mealtime on a day of theirlifestudentscreatedvideosusing ANIMOTO.
They posted their texts and other products they created on both i-Engage blog and on mine
[http://magicenglishmagicenglish.weebly.com/one-day-in-my-life].
At the very beginning of these projects I had no idea what a blog is, so I had to learn a lot and in order
to be able to attend these international projects, in September 2015, I started Blogging School another
national project in which I learned how to create a blog (I have created 2 ones) and how to use it as an
online tool in teaching English [http://magicenglishmagicenglish.weebly.com/].I and my students have
learned how to use different online tools in the project:
Wordle, Tagxedo and Tagul can be used for creating word clouds of different shapes for
brainstorming or making up lexical fields on various topics.
7
Padlet, Glogster and Thinglink can be used for creating multimedia posters also called interactive
walls, containing text, video, pictures etc.
Stupeflix, Animoto and Utellstory can be used for creating different films using pictures, voice, video
records, text and music.
Voki and Vocaroo can be used for creating a mount of speaking avatars.
This online tools helped me to develop my students‟ communicative skills (reading, speaking,
listening and writing), civic and digital skills, to enrich their vocabulary and to increase their critical
thinking in an unusual way, dealing to intrinsic motivation.
This project has recently finished with a Republican Conference that was held on February 27th at “B.
P. Haşdeu” Municipal Library in Chişinău in which I have successfully delivered a teacher development a
workshop on the topic: “Ensuring collaborative projects through
blogging”[http://magicenglishmagicenglish.weebly.com/sharing-experiences].
