Tug of War: Integer Card Game

Tug of War is a 2-player or team game played on a number line using cards to add or subtract integers from a paperclip's starting position at zero. Players are dealt red (negative) or black (positive) cards and take turns adding or subtracting the value of cards to move the paperclip. The team that pulls the paperclip past the other team's side of the number line wins.

Tug of War

Negative vs. Positive


A 2-player or team game.

Objectives: numberline use and familiarity, integer addition (extends to subtraction).

Materials: deck of cards, paper clip, number line.

Winning: If after both cards been played, one team pulled the paperclip off their side, they win.

Set up: Red cards are negative numbers, black cards are positive numbers. Face cards are worth 10, Ace is worth one.
