A simple flower idea with an extra row of petals, interlocking
Celtic style.
For a flower measuring about 1 and 5/8” (4.1cm)
Size 10 crochet cotton, 2 colors
One 6mm round bead
5 seed beads size 11° to 8°
For a smaller flower about 1 and 1/8” (2.8cm)
Size 20 crochet cotton, 2 colors
One 4mm round bead
5 seed beads size 11°
Main Flower
Preparation: String 5 seed beads onto the thread, then wind a
shuttle with about 1 yard of thread and leave attached to the
ball, continuous thread method.
Begin with a self-closing mock ring, leaving a large loop at the
beginning.
SCMR 2 -- 2 - 2 -- 2 - 2.
Slip the round bead onto the loop, putting a paper clip between
the tatting and the bead to save a space for joining later. Then
put the shuttle through this loop, and pull the core thread to
snug the loop up tightly to the bead. The tatting is now halfway
around the bead.
Resume the SCMR with a large picot right at the end of the
bead, then 2 - 2 -- 2 - 2 -- 2.
Pull the SCMR up snug, then remove the paper clip and LJ to
the base of the bead.
Following that, leave space to equal the size of a small picot,
and do a Lock Stitch (to form a mock picot).
Do not RW.
*Ch 12, bead picot, 12. Lock join to the next small picot. Repeat
from * until there are 5 chains (petals). Cut the threads, leaving
tails long enough for sewing. Sew the core thread through the

mock picot and tie the tails together. Hide ends under a few stitches, then cut.
Celtic Round
Wind a Celtic shuttle with about 24 inches (60cm) of the 2nd
color, then cut about 2 yards (1.8 meters) from the ball for a
long tail.
LJ to a joining picot of the main flower.
**Ch 20.
Bring the shuttle, from back to front, through a petal of the
main flower, along with the long tail.
LJ to the next joining picot of the main flower.
Repeat from ** for a total of 5 chains.
Cut the threads, leaving tails long enough for sewing. Sew
the core thread through the starting picot and tie the tails
together. Hide ends under a few stitches, then cut.
