Project 2 Reflection Questions

1. What is the purpose of the project you created and how do you think
the piece achieves its purpose?
Project two was created for the purpose of informing the audience of my
specific discussion group-in this case, a close look into a close sibling
relationship. I asked my brother, John, to answer a set of interview
questions specifically targeted at addressing how and why this discourse
community has an established importance in his life and how it has affected
him. It also has the purpose of inspiring the audience to develop this type of
discourse community in their lives because it can positively affect good
change within the audience’s life.
2. Who is the audience? How did this impact your choice of medium? In
other words, why is the medium (the video or the sound project) the best
choice for your audience AND purpose?
The intended audience for Project Two are people who have either a really
positive relationship with their siblings, or wish to develop one at some
point. The choice of medium or genre in my first draft I believe has served as
a good framework for establishing the primary purpose. However, I would
like to revise my Project Two draft as my Project Three draft and to play
around with a different genre for presentational purposes and use sound
and audio clips to demonstrate this type of discourse community as if the
audience were being immersed personally into the experience. The purpose
of the project will not change, nor will the intended audience.
3. What were your impressions of the technology you chose to compose
with for this project? Was it easier composing with this technology than it
was during the Media Lab? Why or why not? How did the Media Lab help
you prepare for creating this assignment?
Due to the fact that I chose to use a simple PC video editing app, I was not
able to structure my project two as efficiently as I had hoped. The Media Lab
for Project One has served me, in the sense that I have a good feel for how
my available technology will serve in my development of all projects
associated with the English 1110 course. Ideally, I would prefer to use IOS
software due to the fact that it has a more comprehensive and easier-to-use
format that I am most familiar with. However, I have adjusted to the PC
software and I feel I am able to reach the standard goals for all three
projects.
4. What rhetorical decisions impacted your decision to choose this
technology?
Mostly, the idea that I am familiarizing myself with my most immediate
available technology is not so comforting in the sense that my projects
might not come out as I hope. However, I am prepared for the challenges
associated with familiarizing myself and the outcomes that will follow.
5. What were the challenges with technology that you faced in this
project?
How did you overcome these challenges? What was easiest about using
this technology and what did you like?
The most challenging aspect of conducting Project Two with my most readily
available technology was figuring out how to lay out a comprehensive
format for the video slideshow. I used a video that my brother submitted to
me using his Apple Iphone, which did not have the best video quality. In
addition, using the standard video editing app for PC proved to be
challenging because it was unclear on how to navigate the necessary tools
within the software. The tactic that helped me overcome any associated
challenges with using unfamiliar technology was further exploring what
these applications are capable of. Therefore I have become more
familiarized with the format of the software.
6. Did you try a different program than what you used in the Media Lab?
Why or why not? If you did try something different, how do you think it
worked—better or worse—and why?
I Intentionally used the same software in the efforts of further familiarizing
myself with the video editing technology that my PC is capable of. However,
my intention for project three is to take advantage of any external software
applications either with PC or IOS to try to put together a more
comprehensive interactive project format fitted for the intended purpose.
7. What else would you want your instructor to know about the project
and your choices that will help her give you feedback?
My biggest concern with Project three is having to integrate a familiar
format (external audio or video editing software) and use it within an
unfamiliar PC format.
