Earthquake Basics for CSS & PMS

Earthquakes are measured in three main ways: 1. Seismograms record seismic waves from earthquakes. 2. The Richter scale is used to measure an earthquake's magnitude based on the logarithm of the maximum wave amplitude recorded by seismographs. 3. The Mercalli scale measures the intensity of shaking or damage caused by an earthquake at a given location based on its effects on people, objects, and the natural environment.
