IVECO SERVICE BULLETIN 2015 – 020 TRUCK E SB

The Union of the European Lubricant Industry (UEIL) is the umbrella association of the
European Lubricants Industry, representing their members and, in particular, the interests of
SMEs and independent lubricant companies. To date, the UEIL represents more than 400
lubricant companies, who manufacture and distribute lubricant products under their own
various trademarks throughout the European Union. With members in more than 20
European Countries and a unique collective experience of lubricants and the lubricants
market, UEIL is the sole representative body for independent manufacturers of lubricants in
Europe and has been recognised as such by the European Commission. It is UEIL’s policy to
favour free and fair competition within the scope of prevailing EU and national laws.

In May 2014 it was brought to the attention of the Technical Committee that Iveco had
released a Service Information 2014/0058/1 stating “In general the use of engine oil with
ACEA E6 and E9 specifications are not allowed in Euro 5 cursor engines. The only exception
is the engine oil Petronas Urania Low SAPS…..as with these, by Petronas, no negative
influences on the lifetime of the engine and the drain interval has been proven”

UEIL wrote to the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) requesting a copy of all technical
data, including all test results etc. used by them in making the decision to give Petronas
preferential treatment by being the only supplier of lubricants to IVECO Operators.

UEIL also supplied a copy of the UEIL leaflet entitled “Purchase and use of Lubricants within
the European Union”.

The OEM’s Service Manager acknowledged the issue raised and proposed an amended
Service Information 2014/0058/2 which although an improvement on the original was still not
acceptable to UEIL.

Following further correspondence the OEM proposed further changes which again were not
acceptable to UEIL.

Finally the OEM’s Technical Support Manager proposed a third draft which fully satisfied the
requirements of UEIL.

The amended service bulletin states: “According to the above overview, you can use the
Petronas Urania engine oil FE LS 5W-30 (ACEA E6) as well as the LD9 10W-40 (ACEA E9)
engine oil for Euro VI vehicles, or equivalent engine oils from other manufacturers (5W-30
ACEA E6 or 10W-40 ACEA E9), without any negative influences on maintenance cycle
and/or durability on all Cursor Euro V engines.”
