Resolving circuit problems can sometimes lead to very complicated differential
equations whose solution cannot easily be obtained using trivial mathematical
methods. Thus, the need for a method which will not only facilitate the
resolution of differential equations springing from circuit problems, but all
differential equation whose solution may not be easily obtained. This work
therefore seeks to explain Laplace transform, as a simpler method for obtaining
solutions to differential equations.
The work is divided into five chapters. Chapter one (general introduction)
begins with a brief history of Laplace transform and its usefulness in
mathematics and engineering. Still in this chapter, we state the problem this
work will be solving, state the objectives, motivation and end with a structural
description of our work. Chapter two (preliminaries) is compose of prerequisites
knowledge that will permit the reader to better understand the entire work. Also,
in this chapter, we state the sufficient condition for the Laplace transform to be
use to obtain solutions to a system of differential equations. Chapter three is
solely focus on describing some important properties of Laplace transform,
especially those that will be useful in its application in circuit problems. In
Chapter four, we will go into the applications of Laplace transform in circuit
problems. We analyse circuits in the s-domain and study the transfer function of
circuits. Finally, in Chapter five, we end with a general conclusion of our work
and recommendations for future works.
