                                    Reflection Narrative Essay
As the semester comes to an end it is a good time to reflect on how well I did in each
class, and what I can improve on as a student. While there are some classes that I wish went
differently, English is not one of them. I have learned many significant things as a writer from
this course. It has become more evident what my strong suits are, and what I need to work on.
I am proud of myself for finishing the projects we had with a good grade. In the past,
writing essays did not come so easy. I often experienced writer’s block, and did not know how to
break past it. When approaching each project, I made sure to brainstorm on scratch paper every
thought I had for the essay. Including its structure, thesis, and body paragraph ideas. I noticed
that this made it easier for me to start writing, and in the blink of an eye I was already halfway
through. I am proud of the way I got my points across, and how I used evidence and reasoning to
back up my thesis.
This course has displayed my strong suits, as well as aspects of writing that I need to
work on. One problem I stumbled across was citation. In project number two specifically, I had
trouble citing correctly which resulted in plagiarism. After that mishap, I had to brush up on my
knowledge of in-text citations and works cited pages. I still have a lot to learn about citations,
although after being made aware of my mistakes, I learned more than I knew before this course.
Another thing I need to work on is writing a more accurate Rhetorical Analysis. For project
number three my writing was thoughtful, although I focused on the wrong argument. Instead of
analyzing the rhetoric moves of the author in depth, I analyzed the evidence of the topic of the
article. Which was not the focus for project number three.
It’s not bad to make mistakes, unless you do not learn from them. I have a few goals that
I would like to apply to Written Communications 2. Firstly, learning how to effectively do
in-text citations so that I do not accidentally plagiarize again. I will apply this goal by using my
resources to correctly cite. Secondly, I want to become a more advanced writer. To achieve this I
will challenge myself to use bigger word, and work on sentence structure. My third goal is to
follow my thesis more accurately, so that I do not make the mistake of focusing on the wrong
argument and goal of an essay. I will do so by clarifying the directions of an assignment with my
teacher and peers before starting it.
After reflecting on this class, I now know the mindset I need to walk into Written
Communications 2 with. I am eager to work on all the things that I have struggled with in the
past, and new things that will help shape me into an advanced writer. I am thankful for the
projects we did because they helped define my strengths and weaknesses as a writer, and I am
looking forward to Written Communications 2.
