Students will then have 20 minutes to write sentences for 2 of their pictures in their scrapbooks. The teacher will confer individually with students during this time. To conclude, students will share their writing with their table groups and a few will share with the whole class. The scrapbooks will be assessed as a summative assessment.

PLAN FOR INSTRUCTION
II. Students that struggle with writing will be prompted by the big idea questions that I have
given to them.
Anticipatory Set:
III. Show students my old family photo album. I will talk them through a few pictures,
what is going on in them, who is in them, etc.
Okay guys, I want to show you this old photo album of my family. This is my mom, in this picture
we are on vacation in Florida. I will do this for a few pictures. I just want students to begin
thinking about their own families and experiences.

IV.Lesson Presentation (Input/Output)

Mini Lesson: Traits- ideas, organization
Today we are going to be writing sentences about people in our family. Yesterday, I asked you
all to either bring in some pictures of people in your family, or if not have pictures drawn of
your family or people that you live with or are very important to you. Because we have been
talking about families, identity and tradition, we are going to be writing about some of the things
that we experience with the people closest to us. To do this, we are going to make our own
scrapbooks! Scrapbooks can be made by people to save memories. We are going to glue our
pictures into the scrapbook and write a short sentence about who is in it and what they are
doing. For example, here is a picture of my mom and I. So, I would write “This is my mom and
I.” on the line below where I put the picture. I will model this. In this picture, my mom and I are
eating cereal. So, I would also write, “We are eating cereal.” I will also model that for the
students. When you get back to your seat, I want you to take some time to look at your pictures
that you brought and decide what you want to write about them in your scrapbook.
Writing
Students will be given 20 minutes to write on day one. The goal is for them to pick two sentences
to write per one of their pictures. These scrapbooks will be used throughout the year and will get
covers made for them at the end of the year.

Conferencing
I will be walking around the room to make sure that students are creating correct sentences and
using good grammar and spelling skills.

Sharing
For sharing, I will let everyone share at their tables. This way, everyone gets the opportunity to
share. Then when they have finished, I will allow up to three students to share where they are to
the whole group.

V. Check for understanding.

I will know what students have learned by looking at what they have written. I will also be able
to check their understanding during conversations that we have while I am walking around the
room.

VIII. Review learning outcomes / Closure

2 Revision Date: October, 2018

To close, I want students to read their sentences to each other. The sharing time at the end of the
lesson will be time for review and closure.

PLAN FOR ASSESSMENT

The scrapbook is the summative assessment. The conferences will be a form of formative
assessment.

REFLECTION AND POST-LESSON ANALYSIS

(CAEP K-6 3.b)
Develop lesson-specific questions

1. How many students achieved the lesson objective(s)? For those who did not, why not?

2. What were my strengths and weaknesses?

3. How should I alter this lesson?

4. How would I pace it differently?

5. Were all students actively participating? If not, why not?

6. What adjustments did I make to reach varied learning styles and ability levels?
