About Instrument

Profile Projector with 300mm Dia screen is suitable for all type of

measurements & inspection at industries & engineering colleges. It consists of

a 300mm dia rotary screen with a cross hair line, which is rotatable through

360 degree, to take angle measurements. An X-Y bed is provided to take a

longitudinal & lateral measurments which is equipped with zero ajustmens

micrometer of 25 mm scale graduation having least count of 0.01mm.

How to Operate

Unpack the instrument and place it on the top of the table. Plug the wire to

220v AC mains and switch on the instrument. Place the specimen on the ceter

of the glass plate of X-Y bed and bring it to the optical path in between contour

light & objective lens with the help of micrometers. Now viewing on the screen

move the focusing knob upward until the shadow of the specimen is focused on

the screen. Adjust the surface lights to illuminate the object properly. Now

measure the relative position with the help of micrometer scale with the

reference of cross hair line appeared on the screen. Rotate the screen and note

the reading of vernier for to get the measurement of the angle of an object.

Procedural Steps

1. Measurement of X-Y movements

 Place the work piece on the working table.

 Adjust the incident lights accirdingly to illuminate the object properly.

 Observe the work piece trough eye piece and focus the object.

 Then measure the relative position by measuring the travel of the work

table necessary to transfer a second point to the position previously

occupied by the first and soon with help of the micrometer.

2. Measurement of Angle

The angle are measured by successively setting fiducial line situated in the

plane of the eye piece along with armof the image, or through points indicating

the angle and noting form a protector scale (goniometer) the angle through

which the fiducial line has been turned.

How to Take Measurements

Micrometers: We have two micrometers one for longitudinal measurements &

second for lateral measurments. We can determine the least count of the

micrometers with the following formulae:

Least count = Pitch .

For Example,

If Pitch= 1 mm & Number of cirular scale division =100

Least count = 1mm =0.01mm

Revolving Screen: The function of the 360 degree rotable screen is to measure

the angle of the object, we can determine its count in the following way: -

Least count = 1 M.S.D (Main Scale Division) x 60

Number of division on vernier scale

If M.S.D = 1 and Number of vernier division = 10 then

Least Count = 1 x 60 = 1 min.

Things to Remember

Use the instruments in complete dust proof room for better results & sharp

image. Never forget to cover the instrument with dust cover after use. Always

check the fuse provided at the back of the intruments in case of the non

working of illumination. The image will be hazy if the optical surface of the

objective is unclean. In such case clean the front TIP of the lens with help of

cotton clothes.
