Lesson 1: Meaning and Functions of Management

1. What is management?
Management is the coordination and administration of tasks to achieve a goal. Management can also
refer to the seniority structure of staff members within an organization. Management as a process to
achieve organizational goal, managing the process and set the activities that are ongoing.

2. Explain the function of management.


Management is very important to achieve the goals of your organization, manager should master the
five functions to become a good manager. First planning, planning is mapping out exactly how to
achieve the goal. Second organizing after a plan is in place, a manager needs to organize his team and
materials according to his plan. Assigning work and granting authority are two important elements of
organizing. Staffing after a manager discerns his area’s needs, he may decide to beef up his staffing by
recruiting. Leading, manager should be a good leader to guide his/her subordinate. Controlling, he needs
to continuously check results against goals and take any corrective actions necessary to make sure that
this area’s plans remain on track.

3. Differentiate among the planning, organizing, leading and controlling


functions of management.
Planning should be mapping to achieve the goal, organizing is the step by step process to achieve the
goal, leading, manager should good in leader that can motivate his/her subordinate and last controlling
in business controlling should be maintain the business

Lesson 2: TYPES OF MANAGEMENT THEORIES

1. DIFFERENTIATE SCIENTIFIC, ADMINISTRATIVE AND BUREAUCRATIC
MANAGEMENT

Scientific management theory believes that it is vital to find the most effective way to complete each
and every task, no matter how small. Administrative management focused on the process of completing
the work most effectively and focusses on the structure of company as whole. Bureaucratic manage
management it is focus on the number of the output than the well-being of its employees.
2. DIFFERENTIATE HUMAN RELATION, GENERAL AND X and Y
MANAGEMENT.

Human relation theory is centered on human interactions and relationships. This theory is only focused
on how money affects employee’s performance. General System Theory is the theory that all our body
part are equal if you are heathy and all your body is functional then you can work effectively.------

The X and Y theory believes that all manager can be grouped into two categories the first categories
known as theory x explain that the manager has a negative view of their employees and need to be
force coaxed into working. Theory Y Managers believe that employees are inherently motivated to work.
. Theory Y Managers value the importance of helping their employees to thrive by providing
opportunities for learning and development.

Lesson 3: FUNCTIONS, ROLES AND SKILLS OF A MANAGER

Managers should be the leader that motivates, planner, organizer, cheerleader, coach, and problem solver
and decision maker – all rolled into one. Manager should always ready in case of emergency manager

involves human interaction, Informational involves the sharing and analyzing of information, Decisional
this role involves decision making. In terms of skills managers should be technical this skill should be
expertise to perform a particular task. Human this skill demonstrate the ability to work well in
cooperation with others. Conceptual this skill for the ability to think analytically. Leadership ability to
influence other to perform task. Self-objectivity ability to evaluate yourself realistically. Tolerance
Analytic Thinking ability to interpret and explain patterns in information. Behavioral Flexibility ability to
modify personal behavior. Oral Communication ability to express idea clearly in words. Written
communication ability to express ideas clearly in writing. Personal Empact ability to create a good
expression and instill confidence. Resistance to stress ability to perform under stressful condition.
Tolerance for Uncertainty ability to perform in ambiguous situations.
