Rhetorical Examples and Explanation
Appeal
Ethos The author was born in Finland in 1987. He has been
drawing for a really long time and has made many comics
and drawn for competitions and magazines. Currently, he
is working towards a master’s degree in Englsih Literary
Theory. This definitely gives the author more credibility
since they are experienced in illustrations and are working
towards a master’s degree in English Literary Theory.
Logos I don’t think this cartoon has much logos in it. Since it’s an
illustration that shows women working together to fight
for change. Although it has the UN logo in the middle. Like
mentioned in the textbook each visual rhetoric has a clai.
In this visual I think the claim is working together to fight
for gender equality without compromising one’s identity.
Pathos I think the illustration invokes a feeling of sympathy and
courage. Since gender equality has been something that
we’ve been for as a society for a really long time. The
audience might feel sympathy for the people who have
been fighting gor gender inequality for a really long time.
At the same time invoke courage within the audience
because in order to fight against hundreds and hundreds
of years of women not being treated as equal as men, it
takes a lot of courage to go against inequalities. I think
this cartoon also shows appreciation because the cartoon
shows all different kinds of women from different places in
the world coming together to fight for the same cause.
Although this cartoon shows the importance that each
woman's identity isn’t compromised in the process. It
shows that the unique identities of each individual are
needed in solving for gender inequality overall.
