Personal Code of Ethics

As an individual who works with young children, I will carry out the values of early

childhood education as seen in the principles and ideals of the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct

as best as I can.

To Children

I will acknowledge and welcome childhood as a valuable stage in every child’s life.

I will honor and recognize the uniqueness of each child (their abilities).

I will assess the children to better understand how each child is learning so that I may provide

better learning experiences for them that will help them in the learning process.

I will not harm any child.

I will learn about factors and for signs of child abuse, so that I may notice it and act on it,

ensuring that the child can have a healthy childhood.

Education of Young Children, 2009

To Families

I will respect families as they care for and raise their children to create a bond.

I will make sure that the program and curriculum perceive and respect each child’s family

structure.

I will learn from families to ensure the safety of their children in the classroom and at home.
Haycock 2

I will encourage family members to be apart of the program, whether it be for activities or other

participation inside of the classroom.

I will work with the families to make informed decisions about their child based on observations

made throughout the classes.

Education of Young Children, 2009

To Colleagues

I will appreciate the differences, values, and quality of my colleagues.

I will support my coworkers by helping them with what they need help with and sharing my

resources to better help them teach.

I will work with my colleagues to ensure that the program shows the good character (DAP).

I will work with my coworkers to make sure we maintain professionalism in the workplace.

I will work with the rules of the program alongside my colleagues, and work to change those

rules if they are not DAP.

Education of Young Children, 2009

To Communities

I will notice and make note that children are appreciated in their community situation.

I will make sure that the community gets a higher education through the programs.

I will work to enhance early child care by engaging in the NAEYC’s core values.

I will work to hire the best help so that the children can get a higher education.

I will work to change poor policies that do not aid or help the children.
