Venn Diagram

This lesson plan teaches students about Venn diagrams through an activity involving K-pop music groups. Students choose their preferred group between Blackpink and BTS. Their choices are recorded and displayed in a Venn diagram. The teacher then explains what a Venn diagram is - that it uses circles to show relationships between groups and their commonalities and differences. Examples of using Venn diagrams to solve problems involving sets are provided, such as tracking students' preferences for potato and tomato. Finally, students practice applying their new knowledge by constructing and solving Venn diagrams for new sets.

Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of the key concepts of

sets and the real number system.
Performance Standard: The learner is able to formulate challenging situations
involving sets and real numbers and solve these in a variety of strategies.
Learning Competency: The learner solves problems involving sets with the use of
Venn Diagram.
Code:

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the Grade 7 students will be able to:
a) define what is Venn Diagram;
b) solve problems involving sets with the use of Venn Diagram.
c) appreciate the importance of Venn diagram in real life situations through
giving authentic examples.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

III. PROCEDURE
A. Preliminaries
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of Attendance
4. Review

B. Lesson Proper
1. ACTIVITY
 The teacher will show two different K-pop groups (Blackpink and
BTS) and the students will choose which one would they like.

 Next, the teacher will count how many of them choose the
Blackpink, BTS and both groups. And present it using the Venn
diagram.
Data:
Blackpink - 11
BTS - 13
Both(BP and BTS) - 6
Abstain - 10

2. ANALYSIS

 Based on the activity, how many of you voted Blackpink?

 How many of you voted BTS?
 How many of you voted both Blackpink and BTS?

3. ABSTRACTION (Discussion)

What is Venn diagram?

The teacher will discuss about the Venn Diagram, its definition and its
usefulness in our daily life experiences.

A Venn diagram is an illustration that uses circles to show the

relationships among things or groups of things. Circles that overlap
have a commonality while circles that do not overlap do not share
those traits.

Venn diagrams help to visually represent the similarities and

differences between two concepts. They have long been recognized
for their usefulness as educational tools. Since the mid-20th century,
Venn diagrams have been used as part of the introductory logic
curriculum and in educational plans around the world.
Teacher will then give examples:
A class of students were asked if they like Blackpink or
BTS. The data obtained from the survey were organized using a Venn
Diagram with the corresponding cardinality on each region. Let set A
be those who chose the Blackpink while set B be those who choose
BTS.

Question Representation Answer

How many chose BTS? Set B
How many chose Blackpink or A∪B
BTS?
How many chose Blackpink A∩B
and BTS?
How many did not choose B’
BTS?
How many chose neither of the (A U B)’
two?
How many students are there? Universal Set

Solution:

Question Representation Answer

How many chose BTS? Set B 19
How many chose Blackpink or A∪B 30
BTS?
How many chose Blackpink A∩B 6
and BTS?
How many did not choose B’ 21
BTS?
How many chose neither of the (A U B)’ 10
two?
How many students are there? Universal Set 40

4. APPLICATION
Let’s try

Given :
Let set P be those who chose the Potato while set T be those who choose
tomato.

Question Representation Answer

How many chose tomato? Set T
How many chose potato or P∪T
tomato?
How many chose potato and P∩T
tomato?
How many did not choose T’
tomato?
How many chose neither of the (P U T)’
two?
How many students are there? Universal Set
