                                        90-HRH 11 RAYMUNDO
  2. Do not dry-dust. If dust and dirt accumulate on furniture, dusting them
with dry cloth may cause tiny scratches which dull the finish.
  3. When furniture has become heavily soiled with a thick layer of
accumulated dirt, the following are recommended to be able to restore
their appearance at a very minimal cost.
3.1 Fold a clean, soft cloth into palm-sized pad and saturate it with a
        generous amount of solvent.
3.2 Rub the cloth over the surface with a circular washing motion and
        clean surface thoroughly.
3.3 Wipe away all loosened soil with a clean, dry cloth.
3.4 Use plenty of solvent and change the wiping cloth frequently to avoid
        re-depositing dirt.
3.5 If there is no more soil that appears on the dry cloth, the furniture
can already be applied with furniture cleaner, then polished.
Soap and water are not recommended for cleaning heavily soiled furniture
inasmuch as water can damage the finish.
  4. Yellow spots on bleached and blond furniture also require proper
attention. Aging causes these spots. However, aging will be delayed when
furniture is maintained with proper furniture polish.
  5. Laminated plastic tops such as Formica can become dull and shabby from
excessive wear when harsh abrasive cleaners are used to clean them. It is
advisable to use furniture wax to avoid such damage.
  6. Pour a little car polish on a thick pad of clean, soft cloth and rub it on the
area using long, even strokes. Then wipe the surface with clean cloth.
Apply furniture wax for protection and polish. The wax will protect the
furniture against wear and make daily maintenance easier.

Begin cleaning from the top and
move towards the bottom so that the
loosened dust and dirt will also
move downwards and the clean part
will not be splattered with dirty
                                          water.
   7. Dry clean the outside surfaces. Make sure that the rubber strip of

to another. This will remove water
from the cleaned surface and will
protect the dried part of the glass
                                          from getting wet.
   8. Polish the glass. Fold a polishing cloth into a pad
                                          then spray Methylated spirit unto
the pad. Wipe windows moving side-
ways until the whole area is
                                          polished. Always wipe-dry the
                                          rubber strips after every downwards
stroke. Give attention to corners and

                             General Household Hints
House cleaning becomes easier and more economical with the use of
proper housekeeping techniques, using some tricks for handling unavoidable
stains with simple home remedies, such as vinegar.
To save steps as you make up each room, make a circular tour beginning
at the door. As you move around the room, dust the furniture, knick-knacks,
mirror and other accessories, spraying wax lightly on them, then wiping dry with
soft, lint-free cloth.
Extra Tips on Spot Removal and Furniture Care:
   1. Ashes will not stick to waxed ashtray. Waxed telephones will not collect as
many fingerprints. Spray a little wax into a dust cloth, and then go over
each item with the wax dampened cloth.
   2. When a polishing cloth becomes too mist to wipe large surfaces, it makes
an ideal cloth for dusting and cleaning areas such as furniture arms and
legs where it might be difficult to apply wax directly.
   3. Doors, drawers, and window screens will slide more smoothly in the edges
      are lubricated with wax.
   4. Vinegar is a useful kitchen item not only for food seasoning, but also as
an all-around remedy for spot removing, as follows:
      a. Discoloration on aluminum utensils maybe removed by boiling water in
utensils, to which vinegar has been added.
      b. To remove lime deposit and hard water scales from aluminum utensils,
boil vinegar, fresh lemon or calamansi and water for 10 minutes before
          using them for scouring.
      c. Alkaline stains on wooden floor may be removed by using vinegar. Allow
it to remain on the stain for 3-4 minutes, then wipe dry with a clean
          cloth. Then re-wax.
      d. Unidentified stains on kitchen sink maybe removed by covering the
sink with a solution of vinegar and laundry bleach. Allowing this
mixture to remain on the affected area overnight.
      e. Stains on certain types of rugs that are caused by house pets (like dogs
and cats) may be treated with warm diluted solution of white vinegar.
Apply a small amount on the stain and blot the liquid. Repeat the
process until no more stain is visible.
      f. To remove spots in worn-out areas of clothes that are made of blue
serge, black silk, crepe, and other materials, apply vinegar using a
cheesecloth then air the clothes to remove the bad odor of vinegar.
   5. Some bad odor is hard to dispel even after the windows and doors are wide
open. Such odor usually comes from pungent dishes and seafood; strongly
scented fruits or vegetables, stale cigarettes, and the mustiness of rooms
closed for long periods. The odors linger in the air and closet. They stick
to fabrics, draperies, carpets, and upholstery.
To eliminate or minimize foul odor and to freshen the air in rooms, use air
      fresheners.
The spray of air fresheners like Glade (for room use) or Glade Dry (for
rooms and fabrics) is also advisable in the following:

     a. Ironing boards. Spray occasionally to make the chore pleasant, and to
give the cloths fresh, clean smell.
     b. Inside clothes and linen closets.
     c. On mattresses: spray toward the ceiling above the bed so that the mist
will fall on the mattress. Or, spray above sheets before making up the
bed, and before replacing the blankets.
     d. Spray in freshly cleared dresser drawer, before replacing paper liner
        and contents.
                      Preparing Accomplishment Report
After accomplishing cleaning assignments, housemen assigned in public
areas are supposed to prepare and submit an accomplishment and productivity
repot. Using a prescribed accomplishment form, they will record their daily
accomplishment in their assigned data.
