Expectations:
In my work immersion I expect that I can experience the real life of a working person and to
gain knowledge and skills through immersing myself in the real world of workers/ employees. I
expect that I will do everything that they expect me to do in the best way I can. I also expect myself
to work fast and diligently and for me to be punctual. I expect my work area to be a fast-paced venue
in which I can feel the pressure and stress of work. I expect a friendly environment still even if we
are pressured, but even with these expectations the best one still is for us to have a safe workplace.
With regards to our supervisor, I expect him to treat me like one of his employees and not as students
or lesser. I expect that my supervisor will be strict and will teach us the right ways on how to do the
work, but even so I also expect him to be friendly. For my co-workers, I expect them to be friendly
so that I have someone to ask if I need some assistance. I also expect them to be more understanding
specially if I commit errors. I expect them to teach me how to fix my mistakes. Lastly, I expect my
classmates to behave well and listen attentively to our supervisors so that we will not get in trouble. I
also expect them to work properly and for them not to be late.

Reflection paper 1:
February 8, 2019 the day of the first work immersion is about to start. I can’t get a hold of
myself due to a mixture of excitement and fright of how my work immersion will start.
We, the psychologists to be are assigned at the Office of Student Services (OSS) wherein we
were greeted by the head of the guidance and counseling unit Mrs. Erlyn Honeylette Marquez.
8|Page
Ma’am Erlyn introduced us the basics of psychology and what jobs we can get after graduating. She
also introduced us what to they do at the OSS, some of these are guidance and counseling, attending
to the needs of students with special needs, being the proctor of examinations and much more. After
the short orientation, we were brought to Ma’am Maricris Lad-ey. She explained to us what
Psychology is and what are their functions. After the short discussion, we were assigned on our
tasks. I was assigned as a front desk officer; I was expected to communicate kindly and to give
instructions or information for upcoming freshmen. I was trained by sir Vince in which he taught me
on how to process application forms and how to distribute them to the applicants.
The first client came in and I did what I needed to do and a feeling of satisfaction hit me
because I did not mess up. As the time goes by, more and more applicants are coming in and I was a
bit pressured because there has been a long line already. I was moving fast that I forgot to let them
log in, but sir Vince fixed it and did not get angry. Instead, he said it was fine because there were lots
of people and he felt that I was pressured. It was a sigh of relief knowing it was fine, but it was also a
lesson for me to be more careful and not to forget the steps in the processing of application forms. I
also learned to be more relaxed while working.
Reflection paper 2:
February 15, 2019, the second day of work immersion. I was more excited to work once
again because I was tasked with two things: first is to double check the requirements of applicants
and to handle the front desk of the testing and materials development unit (TMDU). In the beginning
of the day our patience and keen eyedness because there are stacks of papers to be checked
individually and checking them needs hard work. While checking, applicants are already coming so I
need to go to the front desk and assist one of my co-workers. Being at the front desk can enhance my
communication skills and quickness because in the front desk you are to socialize and speak with the
applicants while checking their requirements. At the end of the day we are all exhausted but happy at
the same time because I have felt pressure in my work and especially in the time that applicants are
crowding outside and I need to work double time. I even got confused in writing applicant numbers,
9|Page
but my co-workers didn’t get angry and even fixed it themselves. But after all the hard day’s work,
we were rewarded by the director sir Joel Lubrica by giving us pizza to enjoy.
February 17, 2019 the day of examination. 8:00 in the morning we were tasked to fix the
examination rooms and to usher some examinees inside the College of Teacher Education building.
After some time, we already started to file the examinees in a line for us to check their examination
permits and ID’s. Everyone was checked and have entered the testing rooms already, but we stayed
outside for latecomers, we reminded those latecomers not to be late once again. Those latecomers
made me angry at some point because they know that they are late already but still they walk slow.
On the testing area, we were tasked to cross out unanswered numbers and to see for those who are
cheating. We did this every subtest until the second batch of examinees at 1:30. Being a proctor is an
experience that I will not forget because it showed me lots of things: like how to properly proctor,
how to deal with examinees and how to socialize with the examinees and my co-workers.
Reflection paper 3:
February 22, 2019, the third day of our work immersion. Same thing happened, but now I
am at the front desk all day because there is only one supervisor in there. In the morning, paper
works were given and I helped a bit in sorting out application forms then attended to applicants. In
the processing of papers, we need to check if the photocopy of the form 138 is certified I, if not, we
need the original form 138 for verification purposes. We need to check if the 2x2 ID picture format
was followed and we also need to check if they passed the requirements of the colleges that they are
applying for because if not we will not accept it. In processing papers, we need to accept incomplete
or wrong requirements if and only if they have good reasons or they came from faraway places like
Palawan. After lunch, we were all alone in the office without supervision, but because we are already
knowledgeable of the work, we did manage to accept applicants without any help. Since it was the
deadline, the applicants doubled in number and the stress also doubled. We didn’t have the time to
relax even to sit down that is why at the end of the day we were so exhausted and our feet hurts.
Through all this, I have learned of the value of multi-tasking and working quick but efficient.

Reflection paper 4:
March 1, 2019, the fourth day of our work immersion and the last day of college entrance
examination. This day is the busiest day of our work immersion due to people trying to rush in their
college application forms and requirements. We were designated to our own stations, Joevelle and
me were designated on the checking of applicant’s requirements. 8:30 in the morning and the line of
applicants are starting to build up and we even moved to the OSS social hall due to the number of
applicants. We worked in double time, so that the line will be over, but applicants continue to come
in. We even had our lunch just for 20 minutes and worked until 6:20 because we need to
accommodate all applicants inside. At the end of the day we were surprised to know that we
accommodated almost 400 applicants for the day.
March 3, 2019, we helped them in preparing the exam hall and ushered examinees inside the
exam hall. We observed how they administer the examination.
From all that we have done, I felt very satisfied because I felt stressed and exhausted due to
work. The work immersion has taught me on how to communicate well, work fast but efficiently and
of course, to handle stress and exhaustion. We are also rewarded due to our hard work by one of the
OSS staff (Ma’am Cris). Ma’am Cris introduced us to psychology, what to expect, what to do and
how to pass.

Reflection paper 5:
March 8, 2019, the fifth day of our work immersion. Since the application is over the paper
processing is left to us. We checked almost 1000 papers. The checking will start by checking the
grades of each applicant if they can be admitted to their respective courses, then we sorted them by
their course. Next, we were tasked to find those students who want to change their course. Finally,
we need to alphabetize all the papers. The whole process needs to be repeated for each paper. We
over timed until 6 pm but we still didn’t manage to finish alphabetizing the papers.
March 10, 2019 is the last day of college entrance exam and we were given the chance to do
a formal proctoring. I read the instructions in front of all the examinees, I got pressured and stuttered
a bit I still managed to read it clearly and precisely.
All in all, I felt very happy because I tried something new this time, In the OSS we really
need patience in checking the papers and to do it precisely. In administering exams, we need to
properly give instructions so that examinees will understand what to do. But with all this hard work,
we were once again rewarded (food) by the director of OSS.
Reflection paper 6:
March 15, 2019, the sixth day of our work immersion. Today we are tasked again to sort
applicant’s papers. We started by alphabetizing the papers on each course, after alphabetizing we
12 | P a g e
removed one copy of their photocopied grades and wrote their first, second, and third choices for
them to verify once again if the applicant passed. The applicants are more or less 2000 and the task is
very time consuming, but we made it a point that we finished a quarter of the paper because we still
need to check examination papers.
March 17, 2019, this day is the examination day of incoming grade 7 and we are tasked to
proctor in the examination. We started by fixing the exam hall, distribute test booklets and answer
sheets. Then we ushered the examinees inside the exam hall. Inside the exam room we were
instructed to check if the examinees are writing in capital letter, writing their answers on the correct
number and so on. After the exam, we checked and fixed all test materials and made sure that no
examinee is left on the premises. After lunch we went back to the OSS social hall and continued
sorting applicant papers until 5pm.
This week’s work immersion taught me patience and on how to deal with different type of
persons. In college examination, we crossed out unanswered numbers, but with incoming grade 7 we
didn’t because Ma’am Cris said that it could raise their anxiety levels, so instead we just made sure
that they are answering precisely and within the allotted time. I felt very happy to help and observe
how aptitude tests are done. I got exhausted afterwards specially the time when we are sorting
papers. But all in all, I was satisfied because we really got immersed in the work area and they let us
feel that we belong to the OSS not just regular students.
Reflection paper 7:
March 22, 2019, the seventh day of our work immersion. Today, we were tasked to check
exam papers of college applicants because they need to meet a deadline. At first the checking was
okay, but as time passes by, I can feel already the pain in my back due to endless papers we are
checking. It was kind of boring, but we can’t complain because it was our task. The day ended and
we only finished around 250 papers, but sir Vince was impressed because we checked a lot, even
though we felt it was very small.
This work immersion is still a test of patience because the papers are unending and the place
is so quiet. The work requires precision because the scores of the examinees determine their future; if
13 | P a g e
they stay here in BSU or not. They even warned us that we hold each student’s future and each point
is very important, so we must check them properly. The work today was boring, but still I am proud
because we finished a lot in one day.
Reflection paper 8:
March 29, 2019 the 8th day of our work immersion. This day is the last day of checking of
exam papers, we finished checking at 10:00 so we were assigned to another job again. At 10 am we
were assigned to sort papers again because we didn’t finish it in our past work immersion. We
removed one photocopy of grades on each applicant’s papers and wrote their 1 st, 2nd and 3rd choices
of courses for final checking. After checking we were tasked to alphabetize the exam papers.
This work immersion enhanced my patience because there were lots of papers to be fixed
and checked and we need time to check each carefully to avoid confusions. We were also tested on
how precisely we checked the papers. With all the papers we are checking and the heat inside the
hall we survived and accomplished all our tasks. the day ended by sir Joel by giving us pizza for our
snack.
14 | P a g e
Reflection paper 9:
April 5, 2019, the 9th day of our work immersion. This day I was in charge of the front desk
wherein I answered questions from clients who are interested in entering BSU or any questions that
the testing and materials development unit can answer. The day went well until sir Vince left us all
alone in the office, I was scared at some point, but sill tried my best to run the office. We were also
tasked in the scoring of some psychological tests. That day wasn’t too busy unlike our past work
immersion days, so we were a little relaxed for the day. The day went well and I floated papers to be
signed by different deans and heads for the final list of passers for the BSU admission test 2019.
After letting them sign I was entrusted to distribute some of the list.
This work immersion taught me on how to work alone even without supervision and to be
responsible for proper handling of documents. Working without supervision can enhance me on
being independent and it can enhance my critical thinking, especially on clients with different
inquiries. Talking with deans enhanced my speaking skills, I learned how to change my tone
depending on who I talk to. Finally, the best lesson I have learned is the value of communication
because as a part of the OSS we tend to meet lots of people with different needs. Their difference
15 | P a g e
creates a barrier wherein we need to break in and try to connect to them so that they can be
comfortable.
Reflection paper 10:
April 12, 2019, the last day of our work immersion. Once again, I was stationed once again
at the front desk of the office to entertain clients. We were tasked to sort files once again. We were
sorting those files that will be used for the evaluation of their second courses. Lunch time came and
we prepared for the gifts we will be giving to those people that we worked with. We returned to the
office and continued with our work until we were called into the office, to our surprise sir Joel was in
there with a box of pizza and offered it to us, he said that it was a way for him to thank us in helping
the office of student services.
It was 5pm and we were once again called into the office by ma’am Cris and to our surprise
all TMDU officers are inside. We sat and we were asked one by one on what are the things that we
learned and how we felt in the OSS. After that, it was their turn to speak, they thanked us because
they can’t beat the deadline of submission of passers without our help. They also complimented the
way we worked especially on how we worked independently and precisely. They told us not to
change that kind of attitude and we must enhance it. Finally, we bid farewell and exchanged our
good byes and gifts.

The Work Immersion Venue:

The Office of Student Services is an office type building. The whole building is divided into
different offices for different uses. We, the interns, are inside the Testing Materials and Development
Unit (TMDU). The office has its own Comfort Room, Computers, Printers, Xerox Machines and File
holders like cabinets and drawers. Our work immersion venue has lots of confidential files that needs
safekeeping. The files inside are different papers containing student profiles that must not be
distributed nor be checked by unauthorized people. Inside the TMDU we have test booklets, answer
keys, application forms and many more. These papers must be kept very well to avoid leaking of
sensitive information.
During my stay in the TMDU I didn’t notice any part of the office that can be hazardous it
passed all safety requirements like having a fire extinguisher, a floor plan and emergency exits. To
conclude, as to what I’ve felt and seen I can say that it is a safe building to work to.
Overall Reflection:
The Office of Student Services (OSS) caters the needs of each student. The OSS is always
there to help students that are in need of assistance and guidance. Inside these offices are people who
are trained to help certain types of problems with different types of occasions. The OSS is the center
19 | P a g e
of wellness for each student and employee, their office is the one who gives guidance to those people
who are lost in their journey. The OSS is divided into different units and one of which is the Testing
Materials and Development Unit (TMDU).
The TMDU is responsible for different types of examination and testing just like the College
Entrance Examination wherein thousands of freshmen passed their application requirements. The
TMDU is our main work immersion venue wherein we learned lots of things like processing of
papers, scoring, proctoring examinations, communicating, releasing the exam slips with verbal
instructions, sorting of papers and many more. My personal favorite job is to be a front desk officer
because I meet a lot of people and it enhances my communicating skills. As a front desk officer, you
are required to speak with respect and humility because one thing that I have learned when I was
working is that, people’s attitude depends on how you treat them so if I talk to them with respect,
they will respect me as well. During my stay in the TMDU I’ve met lots of people already, from
college deans to student applicants. And as a social worker it is my job to socialize with clients, but I
need to adjust my tone on to who I talk to.
As I was working, I observed that my co-workers know how to deal with different types of
people they always show that they have the authority while showing that they are kind and
respectful. I commend how they treated us, interns, because we felt that even in a short span of time,
we were welcomed fully by them and were not treated like someone who is lower than them. They
would give us food if they have some and they even trust us in many things which boosts our morale
and makes us comfortable working with them.
In my stay in the TMDU I think I fulfilled all my expectations because firstly, I felt the
pressure in the workplace. Our workplace was the busiest that time because it was the last few weeks
of college applications. As I am the front desk officer, I am in charge of filing the papers of the
applicants, filing papers is not that difficult, but what makes it difficult is the number of applicants
passing their requirements. My co-workers and supervisors are very friendly, they correct our
mistakes and teaches us how to do some work. Our co-workers are very commendable because they
try to socialize with us so that we will be more comfortable working with them, which is very
important because the office was small and we are the only ones there so we must talk to each other
to understand what to do and what to finish.
All in all, I enjoyed my stay in the OSS because I have learned lots of things which can
really help me grow as an employee soon. The OSS served us different types of jobs that can
enhance our flexibility of work and patience too. They let us try different jobs in the OSS, which
20 | P a g e
really widened my perspective on what I would like to do in the future, the jobs they offered to us
opened doors of knowledge that would help me choose what course to take in college. And finally,
the work immersion helped me to have a glimpse of what awaits me in the real world. Being an
employee, I personally felt the stress and at the same time the success of helping an office undergo
operations. Being immersed in the workforce taught me how to communicate with different persons
that I encounter, may it be clients or may it be bosses. I also learned how to work independently and
to respond quickly to queries. On a final note, I believe that work immersion helps all student to
reform themselves to the idea of work and let them understand how important work is nowadays.
