languages, the better we can savor it’s fruits ripened by the sun.”

Task 4.1.1

Understanding the Essay

Based on your reading of the essay by Remoto, answer the following questions:

1. The author asserts that the Philippine is a “multi-lingual paradise.” He believes that having
many languages is an advantage for the Philippines and to Filipinos. Do you agree with the
author? Discuss your agreement or disagreement with a partner.

Answer: Yes. having many languages is an advantage for the Philippines and to Filipinos. It
shows the genius of Filipinos, and it is something to be proud of. If you know many
languages, you are likely to have access to a wider choice of jobs. If a company in Iloilo
were comparing two similar candidates for a job, the person who spoke more languages
(for example, Hiligaynon, English, Tagalog) would probably get picked over someone who
only knew one or two languages, because he would be able to interact with a wider range
of clients in their preferred language.
2. Was the author able to fully explain the phenomenon he chose to explain? Make sure to
provide support for your answer with specific strategies used by the author in making his
explanation.

Answer: The author was able to fully explain the phenomenon he chose to explain because
what he really desire is for us to know that to learn a new language is to see the world from

live in a mansion of many languages.

MY PERSUASIVE SPEECH

Gadget Addiction Ruining Lives

I believe this topic is very crucial among us. Technology has made our lives easier than
before. With regards to benefits and advantages of gadget, it makes our lives easier.
Gadgets have been used in almost everything; communication, alerts, remote controls,
security purposes, machineries and the-likes. Especially now that we are in a pandemic
situation, our necessities and wants are just a click away with our gadgets. But what
happens when our use of gadgets is more than our required time? It means, we are
addicted to this technology. It has attracted every age group. Some toddlers are even
more well-versed in using such devices.

There are many types of gadgets that are available in Malls and even Online gadgets
Stores. Some examples are smartphones, tablets, PSP, netbooks and iPods. These are
costly but most of them are very much affordable to all types of social classes. These
types of items produced by technology made our lives much fun and convenient every
day, I rarely see people who are not holding gadgets.

Come to think of this. During the old days, hand-written letters are a must if you
want to let someone know how you've been doing in life. But now, it is on the verge of
extinction and is considered as a sweet thing to do even if it is only done on a sticky
notepad. Also, waiting on long lines just to have a long-distance call seems very tiring
but older generation got used to it. With today's technology, you can easily call someone
anytime of the day and from almost everywhere across the globe. As long as you pay for
your mobile data and get connected on the internet, all things under the sun and outside
the earth are just one click away. Books may only contain black and white letters and can
only make you imagine about its content but through the virtual images seen on the
gadget screens, I am simply amazed how it can make me see the whole world in a split
of a second. We are very lucky to experience such hassle-free stuffs.

However, gadget addiction has become a common issue on today's generation. This
issue is not only affecting the young ones; even adults are developing a severe obsession
with their devices. Whether is a game or updates by our friends and family, it became a
norm to almost everybody. It has been a habit to look for something on the internet for
almost every minute of the day. It is undeniable that these modern, technological
wonders have made our life very well for good, yet its overdose can be very harmful to
our health; both mentally and physically. Other contents of our gadgets can even affect
us emotionally.

The people of today's generation have made gadgets as an important material in

their lives. Some would suffer and feel disturbed if they cannot check their devices. Other
cases on teenagers have lost concentration on their studies because of playing video
games. Even kids lost interest on outdoor activities because they are used to spend more
time alone in front of the TV or computer.

Can this addiction be resolved? The answer is yes, and the only effective method is to
limit the time of using them. Parents must also keep an eye on their children and set
restrictions on time and usage of gadgets. Adults must also learn how to limit themselves
on this matter. After going home from work, instead of spending hours facing the device,
they must set priorities like doing home chores first, making time with family members or
have most of the time to rest from a hard day's work.

In conclusion, we must learn to limit ourselves with regards to gadget usage. While
gadgets have eased up our lives by a great deal, we must not forget to take care of our
own bodies. We must not let gadgets destroy our lives. It may sound difficult but it takes
courage and optimism to surpass this kind of problem. Truly, technology eased up our
living but it must not affect us negatively.
