CREDO
We believe that teaching is an art and a “reflective teacher” in which the teacher is
always in the process of discovery, with his/her students and colleagues of good and bad ways of
teaching. Teaching does have a purpose, a purpose to have a good pathway to your students and
other people. We believe that good teachers are enthusiastic and capable of conveying
enthusiasm to students, constantly look for ways of improving our strategies and methods in
teaching. Teaching is more than simply an obligation to engaging and expanding your
knowledge to your students and to help them inspire with the needs of learning. In order to create
the most appropriate learning environment is their willingness to their give and gain their trust.
We will encourage our students to challenge themselves and to look at things with critical
analysis. Learning is a fundamental and ongoing process that every child and adult experiences
throughout their life. And it is essential that we respect and consider our entire student’s ways of
We will be reflective of our own profession, so we can modify and adapt different
teaching tactics and techniques for the benefits for our students.

Philosophy in Education
The philosophy is that people must believe in something. According to John Dewey,
education is by its nature an endless circle spiral. It is an activity, which includes science,
because in its process, it raises problems to be studied which then reacts upon demanding more
through, more science in an everlasting sequence.
This definition of education makes it imperative to a person to have a philosophy of education
and beliefs in the function of teaching.
A teacher should believe in the intended processes and activities to produce desirable
changes in the behavior of students. We must believe in the capacity to effect these changes,
promote and facilitate these changes through the mastery of the subject matter and the use of
appropriate methods and techniques of teaching.
A teacher also functions as manipulator of teaching learning situations. As a manipulator,
he believes in his ability to create a series of operations directed to change specific behavior.
These are just the parts of a teacher’s educational philosophy.
As a student teacher, we must believe in something that will eventually help us in setting
the goal of our life. This will focus on the values and objectives of the new social order; these
will help the teacher in analyzing and organizing his objectives; crystallizing the thoughts that
will serve as a guide to prevent a teacher from getting lost their maze of her many-faceted
chores. The school occupies premier place in the construction of the society, particularly in the
matter of changing the attitudes toward community. The role of the teacher plays will be a
crystallizer and an evaluator of the educational program under the democratic society.

values. Also, Education frequently takes place under the guidance of educators, but learners may
also educate themselves. While, Philosophy is something that people must believe. And by that
definition of education, as a future educators I believe that I can share or transfer to the learners
what I’ve learned before and while they becoming matured they can educate themselves based
Also, as a teacher we should believe on what the learners can do. Because we’re their
second parents that’s why we should be the second person who believe that they can do or
accomplish anything with perseverance and confident. We should believe that they can do more
in skills or in knowledge.
As an educator, it is important not only to help the students that you are teaching, but also
give them direction to help others. As a future educator, it is critical to remember to enjoy
students and everything they have to offer. Sometimes it can be a struggle, but if something goes
wrong, there is always a way to fix the problem. No matter what, there is always the power to
make change.
And lastly, as an educator I believe my philosophy and teaching styles may change
throughout my teaching career and I want to remain receptive to suggestions and open for
improvement.

Philosophy in Education
Albert Einstein said, “I never teach my pupils I only provide the conditions in which they
can learn.” In this quotes I believe that every student is different with an individual way of
learning and their own set of needs and gifts that are brought to the classroom. It is my
responsibility as a teacher to expound on their gifts and provide an environment that will foster
Each child is unique and learns differently. As a teacher I believe that it is important to
teach in a way that employs a variety of teaching strategies. The students should learn from each
other and learn to work together through cooperative learning. The students should be active
learners exploring concepts through hands on learning. The students should also learn to be able
to apply the concept at high-order thinking levels. I will do my utmost as their guide to excite
I believe that to learn the classroom must be a place where the student feels secure and
comfortable. They need to know that the teacher cares about them. It is my responsibility as a
teacher to provide such an atmosphere. An atmosphere where no matter the student they feel at
Teaching is a challenge and a joy. It is also a lifelong process of reflecting and making
necessary adjustments. To be a good teacher you have to love teaching. I love the uniqueness of
every day and every child. I am very excited about the opportunity be a part of the lives of
students as they grow intellectually, socially, physically. It is a great joy and privilege to impact

The Francisco Benitez Elementary School (FBES) was formerly known as Lakandula
Elementary School Unit II in 1951, through resolution authored by councilor Hermenegildo
Gonzaga of the Manila Municipal Board, the name of the school was changed to Francisco
17
Benitez Elementary School. The main building was an old wooden two story house of 17 rooms
owned by Mrs. Luisa A. Manapat. There are three annexes in the vicinity; Manapat, Villanueva
and Sanchez.
A conflagration hit the area and gutted the entire building and partly the Manabat Annex
on October 1965. The present concrete three story edifices consisting of 36 rooms was built by
the Manpat in 1966. The Manapat Annex was rebuilt too.
Another fire razed the Manapat Annex on March 1969. It was never rebuilt, and because
of acute shortage rooms, the school administrators at the opening of the present school year,
rented another annex on Juan Luna Street. Because of unfortunate Jeep accident that killed two
Grade 1 pupils, the parents petitioned the administrations to bring their children to the main
building.
December 1978, only the Manapat building remain until the 3, 879.10 sq. meter lot and
building was expropriated and the writ of possession was issued on April 20, 1997 by the
regional trial court at the sala of Eloy Bello.
Now, FBES is a Public Elementary School specifically located at 134 Solis St., in the
municipality of Tondo. The school was established on January 1, 1951.
The school is well-planned and the campus grounds are well-utilized. The surroundings
are clean and well-maintained, they provide students a good learning environment. The school
also provides plenty of classrooms, accommodating the huge number of students. FBES also has
different programs and activities like the A1 child for the DepEd and Nutrition Month and many
more. But all in all, Francisco Benitez Elementary School is a great place for both learners and
educators.

History
Francisco Benitez Elementary School is now situated on a 3,879.10 square meter site at
134 Solis St. Gagalangin, Tondo, Manila.
18
FBES originally occupied a 2,245 square meter lot privately owned by the late Dona
Luisa O. Manapat. The old building was a wooden two-storey house with 17 rooms.
Before World War II, the school was known as Gagalangin Primary School Annex, as it
was under the supervision of the principal of Gagalangin Elementary School. In 1945, it became
Lakandula Unit II.
On August 15, 1951, the Manila Municipal Board approved a resolution authored by
Councilor Hermenegildo Gonzaga, changing the name Lakandula Elementary School to
Francisco Benitez. As the population grew, Mrs. Marciana Tinio, the principal successfully
negotiated for three more annexes; the Manapat, Sanchez, and Villanueva annexes. On October
17, 1965, the main building and the Manapat annex caught fire. In 1966, a new two storey
building with 38 rooms and a roof garden was constructed. The Manapat annex was also rebuilt.
In 1980, Mrs. Luz C. Panopio with the Parent-Teacher and Community Association
attempted to take the necessary steps to persuade the City Government to buy the property, but
the owner refused to sell.
In January 1995, Dr. Lourdes S. Lim, a young, energetic and ambitious principal took
over the school. She successfully persuaded the City Council of Manila to purchase the land for
the school. Mayor Lim approved and signed City Ordinance No. 17809 on November 16, 1995
appropriating 25 million pesos for the purchase of the site.
Finally, on April 14, 1997 a Writ of Possession was issued by the Regional Trial Court.
The demolition of the old building began on July 30, 1997. A two-storey-six-classroom building
from the Countrywide Development Fund of Congressman Lopez was completed and turned
over to the school in 1998, while work on the School of the Future continued.
The phase of the School of the Future (SOF) was inaugurated in 1998. The tenants of the
apartments in front the school were evicted, giving way to the construction of five makeshift
rooms for the Home Economics and Industrial Arts classes. Congressman Nestor Ponce donated
six makeshift rooms while PTCA constructed five rooms.
In March 1999, Mrs. Erlinda J. Valdez came to FBES. The second phase of the (SOF)
building was completed. The Principal’s Office occupied the ground floor. The school now has a
presentable air-conditioned library, conference room, media room and journalism room. The
kindergarten classes haw two permanent rooms.
19
Francisco Benitez Elementary School after sixty-six years of existence as a Public
Elementary School in Gagalangin, Tondo, Manila has turned into dream school, which every
pupil, teacher, and parent can be proud of.
FBES has three high rise permanent buildings with fifty-one regular classrooms, six
special rooms, a library, conference room, a journalism room, and two Home Economics room, a
new office for the principal and ICT room and stage.
With the help of some very special people the dream school of the Benetizians has been
realized.
Reflection
Practice teaching is said to be the playing area of all the theories that we studied and
learned. Pre-service teacher learning never stops as it added more and more our knowledge as we
teach the real pupils. Being a student teacher is a challenge because it is not more than learning
theories anymore but it is learning to become better and real teacher in the real scenario of this
chosen profession. I have learned a lot of things of being a student teacher in the Francisco
Benitez Elementary School, not just in academically but also emotionally. As a teacher I must be
patient all the time, despite of heavy pressure in teaching, in making all the requirements and in
terms of having less of time to relax. Patience, eager to learn more and love of the profession
chosen is the key to success.
I realize that being a teacher is not an easy job. It is none of the busiest profession I ever
known. As a teacher you must have patience, dedication and willingness of the work. Making
lesson plan and visual aids at night itself is not an easy thing to do, and in the morning you
prepare yourself to teach your class by your lesson plans that been prepared and sometimes you
will extend your time because of some activities in the school.
But all those hard works were paid off. I enjoyed my practice teaching experiences. And I
will treasure it for the rest of my life.

Reflection
School, this is the place wherein the students gained knowledge and wisdom, and source
of experiences as well. This is also a place nurturing a better society by means of education and
teacher is one of the responsible on that.
This is how I describe the Francisco Benitez Elementary School, the school where I
practice my teaching as a real teacher. This place challenged me; my skills, my knowledge and
my character as an individual to become more competent, not just in specific terms “my
profession” but in everything. I also considered this place as my home, an annex school of my
tertiary and a place to interact with the reality of becoming a teacher. Being a student-teacher
everything wasn’t easy, as I heard that I’m to be assigned on that place, I do not know what’s
waiting for me. Excitement, nervous, anxiety and more emotions came to me when I first step on
that school as a student-teacher, more especially when I met my very first students. There are lots
of faces every day, not only the students but all the staffs. I do not know how are them, how
people around will treat me, will interact with me and even myself I don’t know how I interact
with them. All I know is to be true, just be myself and ask God in everything I do. However, as
time goes by I’ve become comfortable with them. I learned to love them easily, even my chosen
profession, they are also my inspiration why I’m inspired working and attending my duty.
22
I have learned a lot of things as a student-teacher from this school, not only those theories
and principles as an education student but also become an effective teacher emotionally. I
realized as I role my profession as a teacher, teacher is the best actors and actresses. As you stand
before your students you will be the best actors/actresses that they will ever know, but the truth is
they don’t know. You will smile if they smile, you will be talented even you’re not. That’s the
reality that I experienced in my journey of practicing my teaching.
What is the hardest part in my practice teaching? When the time that I need to leave. Of
course I’m happy because I’m able to finish my practice teaching but sad because I have to leave
now. I learned. I enjoyed. All the hard works are paid off. I will treasure all the memories I gain
here in Francisco Benitez Elementary School.

My student teaching experiences allows me to put everything that I’ve learned about

want to be. If you embrace the opportunity, you can learn a lot from the experience
I have really enjoyed my student teaching experiences despite of all sleepless nights,

semester. And I clearly see how it has grown me as a teacher. The hardest part of being a student
teacher is the great memories with your students that surely you really miss them a lot.
