Abstract:
An application software based on client/server
architecture which helps us to monitor the clients remotely on a LAN with a
single operating system installed in order retrieve the information of the
clients connected to a network.
The aim of this project is to develop a software based solution for accessing
another computer for that server, which is logged remotely in LAN with different
operating systems so that the administrator can sit on server computer and can view
the details about the client computers connected to it.
Overview:
Network monitoring and administration is an application software based on
client/server architecture, which helps us to monitoring the clients remotely on
LAN. Network administration can quickly obtain the information about all the
hosts in a network, including IP address. The administrator can sit on server
computer and can view the details of the client computers connected to it with
different operating systems.
The project includes facilities like remote shutdown, log-off, sending
messages through LAN, file transfer, chatting and detection of removable devices
like CD’s, DVD’s, Floppy disks, USB devices. This will help the server to
efficiently control the remote clients on LAN. Managing and controlling of a
network is to interact with the lower levels of the system configuration, which will
give a better performance.
PROJECT ANALYSIS:
PURPOSE OF THE SYSTEM
9 Provide a single environment from where an administrator can interact with
the system resources within the network.
10 Provide Information regarding the number of clients running on the system.
11 Multiple operating systems are installed in the clients in order to retrieve the
information of client IP addresses and their list of client projects.
12 User Information: The server will be provided with the information of
client IP address and the user who has logged into it.
13 Client Process: Using this feature the server can know the list of
processes that are running at that instant in the client . The server will
be provided with a list of all the processes that are running in a particular
client IP that are provided .
14 User Commands: In this server is provided with a list of all the commands
that a particular user who has currently logged in the client system used.
PROBLEMS IN THE EXISTING SYSTEM:
15 It cannot be worked on all operating systems.
16 Restart is not possible through monitoring.
17 Shutdown and Log Off’s are also not possible through the monitoring of
networks.
18 Application that is running by the client cannot be closed automatically by
the server.
19 The current system cannot compare the services that are running in the
different systems. Without giving the client IP address of the respective
client machine system, the information is not available.
20 Usage of PING command is not possible when different operating systems
are considered
21 It is not able to stop the working of a removable device through monitoring
if it is having any viruses.
SOLUTIONS TO THE PROBLEMS:
22 As Network Monitoring and Administration is a network based application,
so it requires making the server to retrieve all the list of client IP addresses
that are connected remotely on a LAN.
23 Three Different features are provides to know the current status of the
clients remotely on a LAN.
ADVANTAGES :
24 Access another system from the server logged remotely on LAN.
25 Server can find the list of processes that are running at that instant in the
client.
26 Remote shut-downs, log-offs, restart is possible through monitoring itself.
27 Easier to transfer a file from server to the client.
28 Screen capturing is also possible.
29 PING Command is used.
30 Effectively increase the CPU’s efficiency.
31 Access files from the clients throughout the network.
32 Providing access to the removable devices.
SCOPE OF THE SYSTEM:
Network monitoring and Administration is an application which runs on a
network. Current scope of the project is to check the state of the clients on a LAN,
list of client IP addresses, user commands, and state of removable devices that the
application doesn’t provide any method to work with aspects of the network
management
