NOTICE OF UPCOMING WORK

April 16, 2021 | NEW WATER MAIN TO BE INSTALLED IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) will replace a water main in your neighborhood as part of a
citywide water main restoration effort. The new water main will enable SPU to continue to
provide safe drinking water and reliable service to SPU’s current and future customers. This
work was previously scheduled to start in 2020, but it has been delayed due to COVID-19 and
contractor availability.

LOCATION
The work will take place on 39th
Ave SW between SW Grayson St
and SW Admiral Way with some
activities occurring at the
intersection of SW Grayson St and
Belvidere Ave SW. See map for
approximate location of work.

SCHEDULE
Construction is expected to begin
as soon as Wednesday, April 21,
and it will take about 5-7 weeks to
complete the work. Work will
occur Monday – Friday from 7 am
to 5 pm. Please note that
weather, permitting, and other
factors may impact start date and
duration.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING CONSTRUCTION

• Pavement excavation, construction noise, dust, and vibrations.
• Staging of equipment and construction vehicles near the project area.
• On-street parking near the work area will be prohibited.
• Residents will continue to have pedestrian access to their homes.
• Initial construction activities will occur at the intersection of SW Grayson St and Belvidere
Ave SW, and it will take about 9-12 non-consecutive working day to complete this phase of
work.
o Please expect delays when traveling through the intersection when crews are working,
and, if feasible, avoid using the intersection when construction activities are occurring.

Seattle Public Utilities provides essential services — pure mountain drinking water, recycling and composting that lead the
nation, and sewer and drainage systems to protect our local waterways — that safeguard your health and our shared
environment, and help keep Seattle the best place to live.
o The contractor will maintain vehicle access during non-working hours (i.e. before 7 am
and after 5 pm).
o The SPU contractor will install new ADA curb ramps at this intersection as part of site
restoration.
• For most of construction, 39th Ave SW will be closed during working hours from SW
Grayson St to the intersection with SW Admiral Way with no access form the nearby streets
or the alley.
o Signage will be installed prior to the closure, and resident who need access to their
vehicles should relocate their vehicles outside of the work zone.
o Contractor will work to provide local access during road closure, and work to reopen
39th Ave SW on nights and weekends.
o Residents can continue to access SW Grayson St and the alley via Belvidere Ave SW.
• Construction activities impacting SW Admiral will begin no sooner than mid-May and will
take about 7-10 days non-consecutive workdays to complete.
o During work on SW Admiral Way, the road will be reduced to one-lane in both
directions Monday - Friday from 7 am to 4 pm. Left turns onto SW Admiral Way from
38th Ave SW and 39th Ave SW will be prohibited when lane reductions are in effect.
• Some residents will experience brief, temporary water outages.
o SPU Water Crews will provide advanced notice to residents impacted by outages.
o For more information about how to prepare for planned water outages, please visit:
www.seattle.gov/utilities/neighborhood-projects/water-outages/planning-for-outages
o Note, crews may need to work longer shifts on days when water is being temporarily
shutoff.
• Once work is complete, crews will perform site restoration. This work will include overnight
lane closures on SW Admiral Way and 39th Ave to allow pavement to cure.
