Worksheet Objectives:
1. Identify an organization and situation you want to study over the remainder of the course.
2. Describe the organization and situation.
Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.
    1) Describe your organization.
I helped plan my friend’s wedding, a small, simple, inexpensive, event. I’m going to
zone in on one specific situation, which is the reception or lack thereof. The bride and
groom wanted not necessarily a reception, but rather cake and drinks after the wedding
and then take off for their honeymoon. They only had three days as the bride was in the
military and had to go to training for a week after that three-day stretch. The groom’s
mother was adamant that they must have a meal after the wedding, this brought up the
issue of extra cost, and lost time for the bride and groom. The groom’s mother wanted to
hire a caterer and split the costs with the bride’s parents. This was causing stress as the
mother of the bride struggled with the idea of this added cost, the bride and groom
frustrated by the mother of the groom and my frustration as I was being vented to from
many angles. The mother of the bride is very non-confrontational and didn’t know how to
just say no. In the end, finger food prepared by the bride’s aunt was the compromise, and
I avoided throwing down with the mother of the groom. The biggest issue in all of this
was the mother of the groom’s inability to understand and respect the couple’s wishes.
    2) Describe how Describe your role in the organization (it can be internal or external).
I was essentially the wedding planner and photographer. I was in charge of set up,
decorations, and photos for the wedding shower and wedding itself. Additionally, I was
1
in charge of the favors and games for the shower. The bride’s mom, mother of the groom
and the bride’s aunt were also a part of the planning process. The bride’s aunt took care
of the food as well. When necessary, I was the mediator when problems arose, and when
       toes were stepped on.
    3) Describe the situation. (see the Canvas instructions for details, especially about how
your situation will be analyzed from five different perspectives over the next five
       modules)
As with most weddings many differing opions were clashing, between the bride, mother
of the groom, the bride’s aunt and then of course the bride and groom. The budget was
not set in stone, but was loosely set to be a inexpensive project. This was problematic as
there was no set number to stick by and use as tool to say no to certain changes in the
wedding plans. The bride and groom struggled to stick by what they wanted, what
they were being told to do, or what the parents wanted.
