Mitsubishi uses the same type of transmission called the F5A51
These units are assembled in the same manner.
The major difference is the F5A51 uses a 6 solenoid valve body.
The Hyundai/Kia use a 7 solenoid valve body
Front Pump
The front pump for the A5HF1 is a fairly generic gerotor style pump. The
tricky part is the pump alignment.
Dots on the gears face up.
Front Pump
Pump Alignment methods
WITHOUT ALIGNMENT TOOL
The pump to converter and stator support to
main case is practically an interference fit.
Front Pump
Pump Alignment methods
WITHOUT ALIGNMENT TOOL
• Assemble the pump body and the stator (leave bolts loose).
• Secure the pump to the main case.
• Bolt the converter housing to the main case.
Front Pump
Pump Alignment methods
WITHOUT ALIGNMENT TOOL
• Tighten the bolts securing the pump body to the stator support
through the center of the case.
• Disassemble the case halves.
• Remove the pup from the main case.
• Torque the stator to pump body bolts to 909‐110 inch pounds.

THE UNACCEPTABLE METHOD
If you have
been using

such as noise

are very lucky.

THE UNACCEPTABLE METHOD
The reason it is unacceptable to use the converter as an alignment tool is that there is nothing

Rebuild/Assembly Tips
In part 1 we did not take the output transfer gear out of the case. It’s a good idea prior to cleaning
the case to remove the transfer gear/support out of the case. Set aside and lightly clean with solvent.
Rebuild/Assembly Tips
Line up the tab on
the low/reverse
piston. Failure to do
so will lead to failed
low/reverse clutch or
piston damage.
Rebuild/Assembly Tips
Always replace the
lip seal on the
bottom side of the
low sprag race.
This ensures a
solid flow of lube
oil to the sprag.
Rebuild/Assembly Tips
Prior to installing the
band, remove the band
anchor bolt. Now install
the band around the
direct drum and
reinstall the anchor bolt
with a new O‐ring.
