In this module, you are expected to write a clear report of the parts of your
research study, revise a written research report based on suggestions and
recommendations of panelists and submit a final written research report.
               Vocabulary List
The following term will be encountered in the lesson:
Written Research Report
a careful study that is done to find and report new knowledge about something
the activity of getting information about a subject
          a studious inquiry or examination
a report of an investigation or experimentation on the discovery and
interpretation of facts, revision of accepted theories or laws in the light of new
facts, or practical application of such new or revised theories or laws
a report of the collection of information about a particular subject or topic

Write T if the statement is true and F if the statement is false. Write your answer
in a separate sheet of paper.
_____1. A research paper presents the results of the researcher’s investigation on a
         selected topic.
_____2. An authentic research paper is a write-up that is uniquely owned by the
         researcher.
_____3. The researcher’s experience of gathering, interpreting and documenting
information, developing and organizing ideas and conclusions, and
communicating them clearly will not prove to be an important and satisfying
         part of the researcher’s learning.
_____4. A good research paper should reflect the amount of effort spent on it and
         should show usual results.
_____5. It is said that first impressions are everything that is why the researcher’s
         paper should not appear scholarly.
            Learning About It
After conducting the survey among the respondents, the researchers perform data
collection and interpretation, draws findings based on the collected data, forms logical
conclusions and recommendations and comes up with the written research report.
 Written Research Report
It is the final outcome of the research
Its quality of the report largely contributes to the quality of the research
It should follow a pattern of style that has become conventional in
       academic/professional circles
It is a systematic attempt s to answer questions and solve problems. It
includes activities like planning, research, organization and presentation
It is a systematic write up on the findings of the study including
methodologies, discussion, conclusion etc. following a definite style
This report communicates information which has been compiled as a result
of research and analysis of data and of issues
It can cover wide range of topics but usually focus on transmitting information
with a clear purpose, to a specific audience
This report is a document that is accurate, objective and complete

Characteristics of an Effective Research Report
                               An effective report is
1. focused on the important information.
2. accurate and exact.
3. clear and does not mislead.
4. brief and concise.
How do you write a research report?
1. Use your outline and prospectus as flexible guides.
2. Build your essay around points you want to make (i.e. don’t let your sources
   organize your paper)
3. Integrate your sources into your discussion.
4. Summarize, analyze, explain and evaluate published works rather than merely
   reporting it.
Key Components of a Final Research Paper
1. Title – It may include information regarding the focus of the research population or
target audience being studied, and study design.
2. Abstract – It provides the reader with a brief description of the overall research,
how it was done, statistical techniques employed, key results, and relevant
implications or recommendations with key words used in the study.
3. Introduction – This section contains information about why you are doing the
research paper on the topic, how the study affects the intended reader in some
poignant and tangible way in his/her field of expertise and elaborates on the content
mentioned in the abstract and provides a better idea of what to anticipate in the
   manuscript.
4. Review of Related Literature – It should be a synthesis of the previous literature
and the new idea being searched. The review should examine the major theories
related to the topic to date and their contributors.
5. Research Methodology – This component of your final paper or research article
provides significant information on the type of research methods and designs used
to conduct the study. This section should also contain the description of sampling
design and technique in selecting the participants of the study. It also includes the
data collection method, procedures and instruments employed in the study.
6. Results and Discussion – This section presents the reader with the researcher’s
data and results of statistical analysis described in the method section. Thus, this
section must align closely with the methods section and the research problems or
   objectives of the study.
7. Conclusion – It is the last paragraph in your research paper intended to help the
reader understand why your research should matter to them after they have finished
   reading the paper.
                                             5

This chapter presents the summary of findings, conclusions and
recommendations for the research study entitled “Perceived Motivational Factors
of Grade 11 students towards Suicidal Attempts and its Preventions as Observe
in Social Media”.
Findings
1. The researchers found out that under the Family problems category, expectations
of the family that pressure the children is the greatest factor that contributes to
suicidal tendencies, having 48% votes from grade 11 respondents.
2. Piles of tasks/requirements needed to comply are the greatest motivational factor
under School problems category. With 40% agreed responds.
3. Under the bracket of Community problems, Judgmental people got the most
respond answer with the percentage of 68.
4. The greatest factor under Romantic Relationship category is weak-emotion
management, coincided by 43% out of all over all percentage.
5. The researchers found out that the most reasoned-statement behind posting
suicidal attempts in social media; they can’t share their problems in person. Based
on the result, 60% responded about this statement.
6. The researchers found out that talking in person and giving advices is the most
possible reaction, if one has encounter a suicidal attempts throughout social media,
    having a percentage of 44.
7. The researchers found out that the most common and general advice given by the
respondents for those who are helpless and depress, is “Just trust yourself and
him, above. Pray”, this got the percentage of 44.
Conclusions
1. Researchers concluded that the motivational factors that cause suicidal attempts
are the following: expectations of the family that pressure the children, piles of
tasks/requirements needed to comply, judgmental people and weak-emotion
    management.
2. People with suicidal tendencies tend to share their thoughts of depression in social
media for they aren’t able to express their selves in person, out of shyness and
    fear to be judged.
3. Majority said that once they’ve read a suicidal post from a certain person, they would
probably, talk to that person and give some advice.
4. The most frequent advice to be shared for those who are depress is “Just trust
yourself and him, above. Pray”. For a sole purpose of motivating one’s punctured
    soul.
Recommendations
1. Do not just ignore someone with suicidal posting, instead, try to talk to them, apply
empathy and show that you are concern by giving some motivational words.
2. To those who are suffering depression, just remember that God is much greater
that your problems. Thus, your faith must be bigger than your fear. For nothing is
   permanent-not even your problem.
3. For school, we recommend to conduct a symposium with regards of the awareness
about depression and suicide cases as well. Through this, students will be guided
    by the learning they’ll gain.

This study explored the various viewpoints of Grade 11 Students towards
Motivational Factors and possible preventions concerning Suicidal attempts as
observed in Social Media. Specifically, this study answered the questions: 1.) What
are the causes of suicidal attempts along; a. Family Problems, b. School Problems, c.
Community Problems, d. Romantic Relationship? 2) What are the reasons of posting
suicidal attempts in social media? 3.) What are the possible interventions to undertake
to control number of suicidal attempts? 4.) What will be your adjuration/s (motivational
words) to all those who are suffering stress?
This study is anchored on the use of Phenomenological Approach to further
discuss and evaluate the Perceived Motivational Factors of Grade 11 Students
towards Suicidal Attempts and its Preventions as observed in Social Media in
Pamplona National High School. Thus, this study focuses on the factors that contribute
to Suicidal ideation and the possible preventions to control the probability of
perpetrating suicide.
The major findings of this study, in terms of the motivational factors that
contribute to the causation of suicidal attempts under certain categories are the
following: Under Family Problem-Category is the Expectations of the Family that
pressure the children; Concerning the School problems-Category is the Piles of
Task/Requirements needed to comply. Under Community Problems-Category, points

Judgmental people. While under the bracket of Romantic-Relationship Category is
Weak-emotion Management. While the most frequent reasons of the students behind
posting suicidal-ideation in social media is that, they cannot share their problems in
person. This study concluded that, if a student happens to encounter a suicidal post
while scrolling through certain social-media website’s newsfeed, the most possible
retroaction of the students is to approach and talk to that depressed-person then give
advices. Moreover, this study infers that the most common advice for those who are
helpless and depress is, “Just trust yourself and him, above. Pray”.
In connection with the findings and conclusions of the present research study,
the researchers have listed below some suggestions to further use the study: 1.) Do
not just ignore someone with suicidal posting, instead, try to talk to them, apply
empathy and show that you are concern by giving some motivational words. 2.) To the
school, we recommend to conduct a symposium/ seminar that aim to raise awareness
concerning the issue of Suicide, in order to give the students enough knowledge about
the symptoms and adverse effects of being suicidal. In addition, information to be
gathered will enable the teachers to be cognizant enough on how to deal with such
situation once encountered and observed a symptomatic student/s. 3.) While, to those
who are suffering depression, just remember that God is much greater that your
problems. Thus, your faith must be bigger than your fear. For nothing is permanent-

The six components of a research report are as follows: abstract, introduction,
 methodology, results, discussion and references.
Oral Presentation of research provides a chance for the students to present
the their research by reading a paper and/or showing PowerPoint Slides to a group
of interested faculty, students, and judges. These presentations will allow students
to experience what it is like to present their research at a conference in their
  discipline.

Practice Task 2:
   A. Related Literature:
Agriculture Magazine (2011) reported that the leaves and vegetables are as an
excellent source of vitamin B, iron, calcium and phosphorus. It has twice amount of
beta carotene found in broccoli and twice the calcium content of spinach. The plant
contains several biologically active compounds, chiefly momordocin I and II and
cucurbicatin B. The plant also contains several bioactive glycosides and other
terpinoid compounds.
   B. Related Study:
In the human research studies of McGanty et al (1972), it was found out that
malnourished children have demonstrated small head circumferences, and on post
mortem analysis, reduce brain weight and protein content. However the distinction
between the effects on intellectual functioning produce by nutritional limitation and
effects which are due to other elements on environmental deprivation are difficult to
disentangle.
Practice Task 3:
Social media is a relatively new phenomenon that has swept the world during
the past decade. Social media fuses technology with social interaction via internet-
based applications that allows the creation and exchange of user-generated content.
Suicide is a considerable public health problem; more than 30,000 suicide
deaths in the United States and nearly 1 million suicide deaths worldwide occur every
year. The role that the internet, particularly social media, might have in suicide-related
behavior is a topic of growing interest and debate. The recent increase in highly
publicized cases of suicide that involve social media has drawn national attention to
this topic. Researchers are also interested in whether the internet in general primarily
helps or hinders suicide prevention. Attempts to assess the extent of the Internet’s
influence on suicide behavior are difficult because of the indirect and complex
association between internet use and suicide. The myriad legal complexities involved,
as well as the important issues of freedom of speech and civil liberties, have also
triggered debate. Whether some of social media’s influence on suicide behavior
should be considered a public health problem and how public approaches might be
used to address this influence are relevant issues.
In the warning signs of suicide generated by the American Association of
Suicidology “talking about suicide” along with “threatening suicide” and “looking for
ways to die by suicide” are listed signs of acute suicide risk. Raising the public
awareness of suicide warning signs and gatekeepers training are therefore proposed
as important strategies for crisis intervention and suicide prevention. On the other
hand, other studies argued that, under certain conditions talking about suicide or even
trying to harm one-self might be interpreted as a cry for help, which may not
necessarily be associated with acute suicide risk but may reflect ambivalent struggles
over negative affectively and emotional instability ( here after referred to as the “ cry
for help theory” ). In psychological research, negative affectivity and emotional
instability are found to be risk factors for suicide. Therefore, we can combine the
warning signs theory and the cry for help theory to determine that people who talk
about suicide are at a certain level of risk. The inverse proposition is that people who
are not at risk of suicide would not talk about suicide.
