The story is based around the relationship between a man and a woman, the man grew up a poor

child who had an unloved and harsh upbringing, causing him to find comfort in his lone company
and not care about fitting in, and despite his circumstances developing an optimistic nihilism view on
the world - he funnelled his energy into bettering himself and becoming smarter with the drive to
outshine his family, but also to fulfil the incredibly far-fetched dream like life he’s had built up in his
head since he can remember. The woman on the other hand grew up on the other side of town in a
rich and loving family, but nonetheless had lost her father at a young age and had faced personal
difficulties in her upbringing that affected her massively with her sense of place, causing her also to
have an atypical view of the world which she reserved to herself - she cared about fitting in even
though she didn’t want to and was also very intellectually smart. In their late teenage years, the guy
gets a mundane job on the riverside in the rich side of town to get an income, which lets him off late
at night. After his shifts are done, he always goes to sit by the bridge and look at the river to spend
time with himself to think about his life and dream before he has to return back to his home. One
day the girl happens to also be sat in the same spot he would go to so he approaches her and
explains that this is the spot he comes to. They both start talking and instantly develop a special
connection relating to the thoughts, ideas and outlook they have in life, something neither of them
have shared with others in their life as they’ve felt outcasted because of it – creating comfort with
each other and starting a bond that gets deeper and deeper over the next few months of their lives
as they continue to sneakily meet (as her parents don’t want her seeing him due to class difference)
at the same spot at night after he gets off work. In this time period, the guy starts falling heavily for
the girl, fitting her into the imagination he’s built-up thinking that he can also take her, as well as
himself, away from the place that’s caused them misery and make them happy by being in a place
where they don’t have to care about society. In this time the girl also takes a strong liking to him and
how he views everything but is incredibly torn whether she would want a future with him. She
admires him and the fact she’s found someone who she can relate to in this way, however, due to
her upbringing and accustomed ways she can’t let go of the reality of the situation and feels like she
needs someone with more security and wealth rather than what he had even though she valued it
incredibly. As time passes, he ends up telling her his feelings to which she is left not knowing what to
say (as she knew the real reason she couldn’t be with him was something she truly didn’t value
herself so didn’t want to tell him, but felt like she had to stick to it), resulting in the relationship
coming to an abrupt halt and the guy distancing himself as he can’t take the confusion and struggles
to see why she doesn’t feel the same way after everything they had spoken about and bonded over -
causing him to have issues and doubts about himself (she also spends this time massively upset over
this as she doesn’t want to lose someone who she has this deep of a relationship with). They stop
meeting up but due to where he works he sometimes sees her from afar with all of her upper class
friends living a fun life, driving him into being jealous of the boys that’s she’s surrounded by and
ultimately driving him to the idea that the reason she doesn’t want him is because of his poor
situation and not having anything else to offer, and the only way to get her before she’s taken by
someone else is to quickly get the life he had visioned in his head and spoken about – the only
problem with this is that there aren’t many legal opportunities for him to do this quickly and defy
the odds. From developing his incredible intelligence and smartness over the years, he makes a
lucrative plan and begins his movements in the criminal underworld as a gangster with the aim to
get to a level of money, power and respect so that he can fulfil his dreams and the life he wanted to
give her, but also exit at the right time so he doesn’t have to stay involved in the underworld and can
go off with her forever (relating the story to gangster films and the wanting for more taking over, he
chooses the path to go on but his reasoning relates to walking the tightrope between good and evil
as his intentions are right but his execution will be bad – he is a respectable gangster though to
relate to the modern antihero and audience). During the time he is doing this, they meet a couple
times, the first by chance, but continue to as he wants to stay relevant to her but keeps what he’s
doing under wraps – with their conversations mainly consist of them reflecting over the past and
when they were younger– during this time, the girl is studying law due to her family’s background in
order to make something of herself through this (bringing in the law and order aspect of the
situation and contradicting the guys path). After almost finishing his journey as a gangster and
achieving all of what he’s wished, he accidently comes across her on a job which reveals what he’s
been doing with his life – he tries to explain to her why he’s done it and how it was all for her but
with her now established career and family history in governmental law, as well as a horrified
realisation of what he’s been doing, she is again at loss for words and shuns him off saying this isn’t
what she’s wanted at all, and that he was stupid for even doing so. This leaves him in a deteriorating
mental state of extreme sadness and disillusionment as everything he was doing was essentially for
her and that he was going to leave it all behind him anyway, leaving him extremely nihilistic,
heartbroken and second guessing his entire existence, thinking whether he’s done was even worth
it. It also leaves the girl extremely sad and distraught with the memory of him as she knows he only
did it for his love for her and to give himself a better life from the one he came from, but more so
because she realised the reason why he did it so quickly and in the way he did was because he
realised that she wanted someone that could help keep her stable materialistically more than
emotionally, which he couldn’t do at first and would’ve been close to impossible from his start in
life. (The whole narrative relates to doomed love)

Synopsis summary

The story follows a poor lonesome but intelligent teenage boy who has an optimistic nihilistic view
on the world and has big dreams that he’s convinced he’ll achieve despite his background, and an
also intelligent but rich girl who lives on the other side of town that, although loved, had troubles in
her upbringing causing her to also have atypical views on the world and life. They both end up
meeting by chance and instantly form a special connection, bonding over the outlook they both have
and their dreams as they’ve for the first time found someone they can talk to about everything
without feeling outcasted. The girl starts sneaking out at night to meet the boy by the river near her
house after he gets off work as he has a job nearby, and the relationship continues to grow deeper.
Some time passes and the guy tells the girl he’s fallen for her which doesn’t go to plan. They both
become distant only meeting a couple times and reminiscing, but with the guys obsession of making
his dreams come true he creates a lucrative plan into the criminal underworld where he hopes to get
enough money, power and respect to fulfil his vision and runaway with the girl to a better place for
them, eventually leaving the underworld behind and their worries. During this time the girl is
studying law due to her family’s background in being well known lawyers and she establishes her
career in it. After almost completing his plan in the underworld, on the final job he accidently comes
across her which unfolds what he’s been doing all this time, to which she’s completely shocked and
horrified – he tries to explain how it was all for them but she shuns it off and cuts off ties with him,
leaving him extremely nihilistic, heartbroken and second guessing his entire existence, thinking
whether he’s done was even worth. Despite her actions, she is also left extremely sad and distraught
with the memory of him as she knows he only did it to give himself a better life from the one he’s
came from, but more so because she realised the reason why he did it so quickly and in the way he
did was because he realised that she wanted someone that could help keep her stable
materialistically more than emotionally, which he couldn’t do at first and would’ve been close to
impossible to do from his start in life.
