KEY POINTS AND FEELINGS IN THE PLOT

(Pre meeting) Young teenager Male:

• Poor troubled childhood/Harsh Upbringing – doesn’t open up to anyone because of it.

• Comfort in lone company
• Optimistic nihilism views and deep philosophical understanding (time is limited and
precious, in the end everything dies anyway so need to live life to the fullest, society is man-
made construct, spiritually woke)
• Doesn’t care about fitting in so lives in his own dream world, but treats everyone how he
wants to be (kind, respectful, good hearted)
• Built up far-fetched dreams in his mind of a perfect life he has to achieve (wealth for security
not materialism, and a big palace like home far away with his future lover to live-in complete
peace) (disillusioned dreamer)
• Extremely ambitious (puts energy into becoming smarter to outshine those around him and
his family, mainly to elude his present/past)

(Pre meeting) Young teenager Woman:

• Rich upbringing but complicated childhood

• Shares the same ideologies as the guy as she lost her father at a young age which affected
her heavily mentally and troubling her growing up, affecting her sense of place and causing
her not to open up too
• Is comfortable and conditioned to her wealthy and security despite shunning the
materialistic value
• Cares about fitting in with peers even though she didn’t want to care as she thought they
were stuck-up rich people (had anxiety)
• Intellectually smart and also wants to be really successful.

Story element – guy gets a job near the girls, accidently bump into each other by the riverside bridge
late at night after the guy gets off work (relatable scenario in relatable location) – girls family doesn’t
want her to meet him due to his background and class (societal differences still present in today’s
world) – she continues to sneak out and they secretly meet at night at the same spot (teenage
rebelling – connect over relating to the thoughts, ideas and outlook they have in life life (more than
just physical attraction that typical film noirs use as the basis of appeal and role of femme fatalle )

(After meeting) Going into late teens Man:

• Begins fitting her into his dreams.

• Thinks he can be the one to take her away to a place where she doesn’t have to care and can
be happy.
• Feels really connected to her due to what they’ve talked about
• Starts falling in love and believes she is the one/perfect (uses her as a means of escapism
unknowingly
• Feels happy and complete inside.
• More ambitious
• Has a lust for her but isn’t the cause of his feelings, cares more about her mindset
• Brings out the inner child within

(After meeting) Going into late teens Woman:

• Feels a special connection with him and takes a really strong liking as he’s the only person
she’s opened up to
• Really happy and comfortable in his presence
• Brings out inner child
• Dream about being free
• Realises the reality of the situation and sees the boy as a dreamer rather than a realist.
• Doesn’t agree about sharing the same feelings as, even though she’s not materialistically
inclined, she can’t help but want someone with more security and wealth to do so (doesn’t
like this about herself but is too accustomed to her upbringing) – doesn’t reveal this
reasoning to the boy because of this and as its something that isn’t his fault.

(After rejection) Late teen Man:

• Is confused, hurt and doesn’t get why she doesn’t see him in that way.
• Distances himself
• Has issues and doubts about himself
• Starts questioning whether he should be more like normal guys his age
• Gets jealous as he sees her around her rich friends when he’s at work and eventually realises
she said no because of his background (doesn’t blame her as he understands but uses this as
fuel to make his dreams come true quickly before someone else takes her) – comes up with
a plan to do it through the underworld as this is the only hope he has realistically to do so
because of his background

(After rejection) Late teen Woman:

• Massively upset as she doesn’t want too loose him over something he can’t control.
• Reminisces over memories.
• Misses him but knows she has to let him go
• Starts her law studies (famous family business)

(Gangster phase) Adult Man:

• Convinces himself he’s doing it for the girl so has good intentions despite what he’s doing is
wrong – his actions reflect one of a good gangster e.g. kind to woman and children, tries not
to kill people, just wants to get in and out etc. (acting out of love
• Constantly battles with his own morals as he’s getting sucked in by the money, power and
respect but knows it’s wrong and feels guilty (greed, corruption of self, seduction of the
criminal underworld)
• Anxious that he is running out of time.
• The closer he gets to finishing his time as a gangster, the more excited he gets and the more
he dreams about his future with the girl (obsession over the past and disillusioned by his
dreams)

(Gangster phase) Adult Woman:

• Finishes her studies and becomes an official lawyer, this is what she focuses on
• Still gets sad over the past but knows it was for the best for the two of them.
• Wishes they could become friends again
• Battles with loneliness

Story element – During this time, they accidently bump into each other and catch up, followed by a
couple more spaced-out occasions. They always reflect on memories when they were younger
(obsess over the past) and how they miss those times – the guy keeps his work a secret and says he’s
just helping out the family and because the girl is now a lawyer, but her saying she misses the past
makes him think she is still interested in him.

(Discovery Phase & Post) Man:

• Elated his time is almost over as he’s doing his final mission (happens to be close to the girls
work place which he doesn’t know)
• Accidently crosses her when doing it causing panic and worry, franticly tried to explain
everything to her and how he was going to leave it all behind and take her away.
• Her response leaves him in a deteriorating mental state of extreme sadness and
disillusionment.
• Extremely nihilistic and heartbroken – questions his existence and whether it all was even
worth it
• Full of regret

(Discovery Phase & Post) Woman:

• She’s happy they’re talking even if it is rarely

• Comes across him and is In shock, horror and anger
• Shuns him off saying this isn’t what she’s wanted at all, and that he was stupid for
even doing so
• Cuts off all ties with him as she’s a lawyer now
• Goes off and is extremely sad and distraught – knows he only did it for her and it
was the only way to give himself a better life from the one he came from
• Full of regret - Realises he figured out she wanted someone to keep her
materialistically stable even though she didn’t say it to him
• Left feeling empty as now they will definitely not be in each other’s lives
