Script Student Leadership

The group chose to use a descriptive correlational survey design using online questionnaires with a Likert scale. This allows them to describe the variables of student leadership and academic performance, as well as determine the relationship between these variables. Surveys can efficiently gather representative data on behaviors and opinions to address the research problems. The Likert scale format produces quantitative data that can be statistically analyzed to discuss the extent leadership impacts academic responsibilities like time management, attendance, and class participation.

RATIONALE

Jastine: Leadership is something that needs to be incorporated in all aspects and parts of our
lives. Same as in education. Moulding the young leaders is part of commencing learning and
learning isn’t just about enhancing the cognitive capabilities of the learners. It’s a holistic
process in which the learners enable their full potential in their academic responsibilities as well
as in making and marking an influence to others. Choosing this study allows not only the
educators or the stakeholders in the educative process identify the status of the young leaders
of the educational institutions but also in which extent does the position of leadership in the
campus or universities affect the academic performance of these learners.

James: And also, it’s not solely about identification, correlation and determining the academic
performance of them because part of this study is presenting the synchronization of being a
leader and being a learner because both of these field are significant in the development and
growth of the learners.

Angela: In addition Sir, according to Asha and Hawi (2016), decision making at any level is one
of the most significant elements that affect the life of an individual. Hence, decision-making
process applies in the case of the education systems. In relevance to this, Ashcraft (1994)
observed that it is an important aspect that results in a great influence in the lives of individuals
that may ultimately affect their well-being. With this background information, choosing this
study will be a great help to identify if the applications of leadership on the campus has a
significant relationship with the academic performances of the learners.

Graciella: Also po Sir, based on our preliminary reading regarding the topic we’ve chosen, on
the same note that Ms. Ocampo has cited, involving students in leadership positions, which
allow them to take part in decision-making in their education endeavors has been considered to
be one of the elements necessary to boost their performance and concept retention rate.
Therefore, giving emphasis to this study will unveil the extent of potentialities both in learning
and leading.

Cheena: Also Sir, in addition we have this notion that when student takes part in leadership
organizations in the campus, it reflects that they are achievers which is also claimed by Meardo,
H. (2005). However, through this study, we will be able to describe how student leaders handle
their academic responsibilities by reflecting through their academic performances as well as
their reported grades which serves as a basis in which their inputs will serves as the factors in
the computation of their performances po.

Crechelle: Moreover Sir, as studies by Stave et al. (2017), engaging students in leadership
make them more responsible which can ultimately boost their academic achievement. In line
with this statement, we want to provide an understanding and an in-depth approach to present
the correlation between these two variables contextually in Tarlac State University College of
Teacher Education.
WHY DID YOU USE DESCRIPTIVE CORRELATIONAL?

Jastine: In line with the constructed research problems that were incorporated in the study,
profiling, and the General Weighted average as well as the factors which can either be an
affirmative response or not included in student leadership in coping up with the academic
responsibilities of the student leaders need a description to be integrated. On the other hand,
the two variables in our study which are student leadership serving as the independent variable
and academic performance as dependent variable has an interconnection with one another.
Descriptive correlational as the chosen research design because it will describe the variables
and the relationships that occur naturally between and among them.

James: Also Sir, generally speaking po, descriptive research cannot make predictions or
determine causality. It simply identifies behaviours and describes the behaviour and the
participants. On the other hand, correlational research determine whether a relationship or
association exists between two or more variables, but cannot determine if one variable causes
another. Therefore, as anchored with our SOP, the incorporation of descriptive and correlational
design is needed. The relationship of academic performance and student leadership and the
description of the varibales that were seen on the 3rdt statement of the problem which are time
management including compliance to requirement, attendance and taking test and quizzes as
well as the class participation.

WHY DID YOU USE SURVEY AS AN INSTRUMENT

Jastine: As descriptive correlational survey, this instruments will be the way for us is of course
to gather the responses of the participants. However, it can also help gauge the
representativeness of individual views and experiences as part of describing and determining
how student leadership affects in both positive and negative ways on their academic
performances. Also, surveys provide hard numbers on people’s opinions and behaviours that
can be used to make determining the extent of their dual responsibilities both in leading and
learning.

James: also, during this crisis as we obey to the safety security protocol steps of the
government, online survey will be employed using Google Forms for gathering the data in spite
of non-physical contact or remote surveys. In relation to this, as stated by McLeod, S. (2018),
data can be collected relatively quickly because the researcher would not need to be present
when the questionnaires were completed. Hence, through this instrument, we will be able to
conduct the data gathering efficiently.

Angela: Also, as you can see, we will be using 5-point Likert Scale in gathering the responses
of the participants with Verbal Descriptions of Always, Often, Sometimes, Rare and Never. The
questionnaires are classified according to the indicators found in the Research Problems and the
factors under these will be rated using this scale.

Cheena: And also, as the respondents provides information, it could be easily converted into
quantitative data, allowing statistical analysis of the responses that will be discussed in our data
analysis. However, in relation to Ms, Ocampo’s statement, stated by Esteves, M. (2014),
surveys are the most reliable method to get real feedback from the participants no matter what
platform they use to engage with the topic.

Graciella: Also, through this Likert Scale questionnaires, one of its advantage is it is a universal
method of collecting data which means it is easy to understand them. Working with quantitative
data, it is easy to draw conclusions, reports, results, and graphs from the responses.

Leila: In addition, based on our further readings, Likert scales are great for digging down deep
into one specific topic to find out, in greater detail what people think about it. And so, through
this instrument, we will be able to identify how student leadership deal with the academic
responsibilities in terms of time management which includes compliance to requirements,
attendance, taking tests and quizzes as well as the class participation including the checklist
that will be used in identifying which year level, college’s organization and organization
leadership’s position do the respondents belong.

Crechelle: The last time I’ve read an article which was written by Rohrmann, B. (2017),
Questionnaires are the dominant data collection method in psychology and the social sciences
in general, and most use rating scales as response mode. Within category scaling, verbal
labelling of rating scales has become the primary approach to enhancing usability. We integrate
this instrument for us to acknowledge the response of our respondents with regards to the
student leadership and academic performance po.

Gemma: In relation to Ms Onate’s statement, we made sure that our likert scale questionnaires
fulfils the psychometric standards of measurement as well as the practicality, such as
comprehensibility for respondents and ease of use. Also, because of its convenience and for the
current situation, they are easy to explain and produce straightforward data.
