What is Literature
Based on the material given, I know that Literature refers to any collection of
written work. Literature most commonly refers to works of the creative imagination, including
poetry, drama, fiction, nonfiction. Literature is from latin root “literatura”. It has meaning letter
of the alphabet or handwriting although some definitions include spoken or sung texts. Literature
gives us a detailed preview of human experiences, allowing us to connect desire and emotion.

Genre of literature are poetry, prose, drama. The first genre of literature is
Poetry. In the style of writing, words are arranged in a metrical pattern and often in rhymed
verse. Type of poets are Ballad, Sonnet, Spenserian Stanza. Renowned poets include Robert
Frost and Maya Angelou. The second one is Prose. Prose is a form natural speech rather than
rhythmic structure in sentences rather than lines, it differs from poetry. Example of prose can
range from novel, novella and short story. Novel is a long fictional prose narrative. Example of
novel is “The Rainbow Troops”. The novella exists between the novel and short story. Another
popular genre of literature, known as drama or play. Drama is a story created specifically for a
stage performance. The most renowned author drama was “Romeo and Juliet”.
