CULTURE:

Dubai's culture revolves around Islam and Arabian traditions. However, the city is clearly open to
tourism and Western culture.

 Dress:
 There is no mandatory dress code, but some customs do.
 Swimwear is accepted on the beaches or pools but not outside them.
 It is advisable not to wear clothes that are too short or limited.
 In the oldest areas of the city, in the mosque and other religious sites it is advisable to wear
large garments that cover the shoulders, arms and legs.
 In the mosque women must cover their hair with a handkerchief.

 Label:
 When greeting a member of the opposite sex, you don't have to shake hands unless he or
she offers it first.
 It's customary to take off your shoes when you enter certain places. Get ready!
 It is also customary to drink food, eat and drink with your right hand.
 You should avoid showing the floors of your feet or pointing to someone with your foot.
 Public displays of affection should be minimized. It's acceptable to hold hands but not to kiss
or hug.
 Women can move alone without a man's company. If you prefer, you can opt for taxis or
women's cars.

 Religious:
 The predominant religion in Dubai is Islam, with a large majority of Sunnis and a
Shiite minority noteworthy.
Many of the foreigners are of Hindu, Sikh and Christian confession. Dubai is the only
emirate to feature a Hindu temple and gurdwaras, the place of religious worship of
Sikhism.
Religious tolerance is high. In early 2001, a step was taken towards integration with
the construction of several churches on a plot of Jebel Ali land, which was handed
over by the Dubai government to four Protestant congregations and a Roman
Catholic congregation.
In tune, the first Greek Orthodox church in Dubai began to rise at the end of 2005.
Financial support to non-Muslim groups is in the form of land donated for the
construction of churches and other religious facilities, including cemeteries. When
you travel to Dubai you will notice how different religions coexist on the street.
Christian churches can openly announce their liturgical services. They are allowed to
raise funds among their parishioners and receive financial support from abroad.
 Drugs and alcohol:
 Alcohol is not allowed to consume or move alcoholized on public roads. Drunk driving can
be punished by severe fines or even detention. Not only tenure, but also drug use is strictly
prohibited.

 Language:
 Both Arabic and English are official languages in Dubai. If you speak English, you
won't have any trouble getting around the city, because the most people dominate
the language. If you only speak Spanish we recommend planning your trip before
leaving home, because if you do not hire tours or specialized guides the language
can be a difficult barrier to get around.
