Research Methodology

The methodology describes the procedures used in an experiment on the effectiveness of fermented Talisay fruit extract on eggplant growth. Materials included eggplants, pots, soil, Talisay fruit, sprayers and a notebook. The experiment used a Completely Randomized Design with 6 treatments - 100%, 75%, 50%, 25% Talisay extract concentrations, a positive control of commercial fertilizer, and a negative control of water. Treatments were applied twice weekly for 30 days. Plant growth measurements were recorded and statistically analyzed to determine the effect of the Talisay extract treatments.

Research Methodology

The methodology describes and explain about the different procedures including research

design, research materials and data gathering procedures, as well as the statistical treatment

and analysis.

A. Materials

The materials used in the study are 18 Eggplant (Solanum melongena), garden pots, sprayers,

Talisay fruit, sterilized soil, commercial product (used by the farmers), water, and a record

notebook.

B. Research Design

The study made use of the experimental method of research utilizing the Completely

Randomized Design (CDR) in three replication

THE EFFECTIVENESS OF FERMENTED

TREATMENTS
TALISAY (TARMINALIA CATAPPA)
TI- 100% CONCENTRATION FRUIT EXTRACT IN TERMS OF:

T2-75% CONCENTRATION A. GROWTH OF THE PLANT

B. YIELD IN KILOGRAM
T3- 50% CONCENTRATION
C. NUMBER OF LEAVES AND
T4- 25% CONCENTRATION FLOWERS

T5- POSITIVE (COMMERCIAL

PRODUCT)

T6- NEGATIVE (WATER)

C. General procedures and treatment

I. Preparation of the Talisay (Tarminalia catappa) fruit extract.

Three kilograms of Talisay (Tarminalia catappa) was gathered from Brgy. Cabangtalan,

Sinait, Ilocos Sur. The Talisay(Tarminalia catappa) fruit was soaked in a 3L water for one
week. Then it was strained to extract the juice and the juice obtained was placed in a

container.

II. Preparation of Treatments

Six treatments was prepared based from the following concentrations of

Talisay(Tarminalia catappa) fruit extract

TREATMENT 1: 100% Concentration of Talisay (Tarminalia catappa) fruit extract

TREATMENT 2: 75% Concentration of Talisay (Tarminalia catappa) fruit extract and 25%

water

TREATMENT 3: 50 % Concentration of Talisay (Tarminalia catappa) fruit extract and 50%

water

TREATMENT 4: 25% Concentration of Talisay (Tarminalia catappa) fruit extract and 75%

water

TREATMENT 5: 100% water

TREATMENT 6: Positive Control Organic Fertilizer

III. Preparation of test plants

Twenty-one (21) eggplant (Solanum melongena) was bought from Brgy. Macabiag Sinait,

Ilocos Sur. This Eggplants (Solanum melongena) was planted in eighteen(18) garden pots

with four(4) kilograms of soil each.

IV. Treatment Application

The extracted Talisay (Tarminalia catappa) fruit extract was tested to eggplants

(Solanum melongena) divided into six (6) treatments with three(3) replicates. This was

done by pouring the extract in each treatment{(Treatment 1- 10 ml of

Talisay(Tarminalia catappa) fruit extract)(Treatment 2- 7.5 ml of Talisay(Tarminalia

catappa) fruit extract and 2.5 ml of water)(Treatment 3- 5 ml of Talisay(Tarminalia

catappa) fruit extract and 5 ml of water)(Treatment 4- 2.5 ml of Talisay(Tarminalia

catappa) fruit extract and 7.5 ml of water)} twice a week in the morning. Observation

was done for 30 days to determine if the extracted Talisay(Tarminalia catappa) was

effective as a fertilizer for eggplants (Solanum memelongena).
