Most noun phrases begin with “Noun Determiners”.
The “Noun Determiners” are
1) Articles; a, an and the
2) Possessive Determiners; my, your, his, her, our, their and its
3) one of …..
4) Counting Numbers; one, two, three, ……
5) Adj + N
Spot a “Noun” from a sentence and its pronoun from the other and underline them. Circle the “Verb
to be”; am, is, are, was, were in both sentences. Then, omit the “Verb to be” and the “Subject”
before the noun phrase.
Combine the two sentences, using nouns in apposition.
1. Kyaikhtiyo Pagoda is built on a massive rock. It is one of the wonders of the world.
2. We visited the Thandaung. It is a mountain resort.
3. The earth is a solid sphere. It is made up of three concentric layers.
4. Ruby is found in Mogok. Ruby is one of the most precious gems in the world.
5. Chaungtha attracts many tourists. It is one of the most beautiful beaches in
Myanmar.
6. We like strawberries. Strawberries are small fruits grow in a cold climate.
7. U Aung Zaya founded the Third Myanmar Kingdom. U Aung Zaya was king
Alaungpaya.
8. Christopher Columbus was the discoverer of America. He was more famous than
Marco Polo.
9. Yin Yin is my cousin. She made my shirts and trousers.
10. Are you interested in Zoology? Zoology is the study of animals.
11. Germs can be seen only through a microscope. Germs are very small living things.
12. Sandar is interested in roses. Roses are beautiful flowers with thorns on their
stalks.
13. Water Festival is celebrated in April. It is the hottest month of the year.
14. Bogyoke Aung San was assassinated on July 19, 1947. He was the architect of our
country’s independence.
15. Many tourists visit the Shwedagon. The Shwedagon is the greatest pagoda in
Myanmar.
16. Bagan is visited by almost all the foreigners who come to our country. Bagan is
the most famous ancient pagoda in Myanmar.
17. The poor man borrowed some money from U Baw Ga. U Baw Ga was the owner
of the biggest store.
18. U Nyan Lin is an architect. He designs houses.
19. Many pilgrims visit the Mahamyatmuni. It is the most famous pagoda in upper
Myanmar.
