                           the event?                            Pigafetta himself accompanied Ferdinand Magellan
                                                                 on a trip to find the Spice Islands but instead
                                                                 discovered the Philippines.
                           Why was the document written?
                                                                 It was written to document or to log the events that
                                                                 transpired on their historical trip to the Spice Islands.
                           Why did the author keep the Pigafetta kept a detailed journal, the original of which is
                           document                    lost. However, an account of the voyage, written by
                                                       Pigafetta between 1522 and 1525, survives in four
                                                       manuscript versions: one in Italian and three in French.
