Smog Free Tower
Smog Free Tower is one of the most innovative products from the Smog free Project, which will
change the future and make the world a better place as it will help to fight the air pollution and to
make the air clean by working as a vacuum. This project is founded and led by Daan
Roosegaarde, a visual artist from Netherlands. The project is in mix with workshops attended by
the government, students and clean tech industries to work together and make cities smog free. It
is one of the substantial air purifiers in the world and the main advantage of having a Smog Free
Tower is that people can breathe non polluted air and live a better life. Liu Guozheng, Secretary-
General of The China Forum of Environmental Journalists has mentioned “The Smog Free
Project reflects the 2016 National Environmental Protection agenda to promote "green lifestyle"
among Chinese citizens. Our goal is to guide the public to a healthier lifestyle, low carbon
development and to raise awareness amongst the public and reduce smog.” Furthermore, the
tower is a machine and it is 7-meter-tall in height, costing $54000 and the project has been
started in China, Poland and Netherlands since 2015.[ CITATION Stu \l 1033 ]
A lot of public places are being harmed due to industries air pollution, cigarette pollution and
pollutions which comes from vehicles. These pollutions are not only affecting the nearby areas
but also trees and the environment, which is a major substance for survival. Thus, causing
cancer, global warming, acid rain, harming the wildlife, rivers and making the soil polluted
which later results in infected crops. According to the latest survey made by the researchers of
UC Berkeley, around 4000 people are getting killed in China everyday due to air pollution.
Furthermore, a report made by American Lung Association, in USA about 4 out of 10 people
have unhealthy lungs because of air pollution. The Smog Free Tower is a tower which is for
public place and polluted regions so that the pollution is decreased and it will make the place
pollution free.
The Smog Free Tower sucks all the air pollutions and make the air non polluted and it makes
totally free for breathing for human beings. To make the machine work it charges the little
current and an electrode passes the positive ions into the air. Then the ions will join each other to
fine dust particles. A negatively charged surfaces the counter electrode and as a result it will
draw the positive ions in, thus forming a breathable and non-polluted air. [ CITATION Goo \l 1033 ]
The people surrounding the tower will have fresh air to breath, moreover, the air in the
surroundings will also be purified. Moreover, the tower is a device which swallows all the
smokes and pollution from the peak and allows the refined air by the six-sided vents. It cleans
around 30000 cubic meters per hour and takes little amount of electricity which it consumes
from green energy. By using a Smog Free tower in different regions, it will help clean the air and
it will not only make people’s lives better but it will also make the Earth a better place.
Furthermore, it will reduce the global warming, which one of the biggest concerns as it increases
the temperature of the earth’s atmosphere causing a greenhouse effect. (Business Insider, n.d.)
In conclusion, we can say that the smog free tower is an innovation which contributes to
sustainability. In this busy world, everyone is engaged with their own life, only a handful of
people has concerns about how will we survive in the long run and make products which will be
sustainable. So, products like the Smog Free Tower is very much appreciable by many people.
However, this type of products is not used worldwide, so we should encourage people to buy this
product worldwide. Furthermore, we should upgrade the product so that it could work more
efficiently and reduce the size so that it would take less place. If the price of the Smog Free
tower is reduced then it would be affordable for many people. Moreover, the governments of the
countries should take initiatives to place Smog Free Tower in industrialized zones so that the air
is purified. At present, the product is used in only four countries but other countries should step
up to use such products so that it would make the world reduce pollution and as a result people
will be able to lead healthy life and live with tranquility and harmony.
